From Our Research Team:

The Updated Nord Lead - Rack!

Clavia has redesigned the Nord Lead 2 with state-of-the-art hardware and more memory and created the Nord Lead 2X. They didn't change the concept - or the sound, for that matter. They just put in new hardware to make it possible for this great synth to live on for many more years to come.

The Nord Lead 2X has the same powerful sound engine and specifications as the Nord Lead 2, except for the new internal memory that holds a huge amount of factory sounds and a lot of space for your own sounds. Thanks to the large internal memory, there is no longer any need for additional PCMCIA cards. The Nord Lead 2X comes with 3 x 99 user Programs, 100 user Performances and 3 x 10 user Percussion Kits plus 7 x 99 factory Programs, 3 x 100 factory Performances and 7 x 10 factory Percussion Kits. The Nord Lead 2X is 100% patch compatible with the Nord Lead 2 which means that you can transfer sounds between the models via MIDI.

Nord Synths Rule

I have two of these synthesizers. I love the sounds and the hands-on controls of this synthesizer. The seperate outputs make layering sounds easy. I use both synthesizers with a Doepfer MAQ 16/3 seque... read more [+]ncer also, and mix the sounds together, having as many as
6 seperate sounds going at once. I like the rack version better because of the portabillity of an equipment rack. The fact that
there are no menues to go through makes this synth faster at programming. Will buy another one if the need arrives. close [-]

This is probably the easiest to use VA synth out there

by Paul H from New Jersey

I have had this unit since they first came out - probably one of the first units to come from Sweetwater. This guy is so easy to use, unlike a Virus or any of the hybrid computer based synth boxes on ... read more [+]the market today. With over 1,000 patches & performances, a decent arpeggiator, patch layering, and other usefull items, it is a very powerful synth.

If you want built in effects, you will have to go elsewhere; but this unit sounds awesome without them.

You can't go wrong with this unit. close [-]

Best synth I've ever owned, hands down!

by Selfinflikted from U.S.

Music Background: Writer, producer, multi-instrumentalist.
First, the negative. The ONLY reason I couldn't give this product a full "5.0" rating is because of the horrible, horrible, horrible (did someone say "horrible"?) patch indexing. Endlessly scrolling t... read more [+]hrough meaningless number after number to get to the patch you want to play is just... irritating to say the least. A larger display with the ability to give patches meaningful names would have been nice. As it stands, you better have a pen and notebook with a patch list on it handy, or you could spend the majority of your time just trying to find that awesome patch you made earlier.

THAT said, the rest is gravy! This thing sounds absolutely crisp, buttery, sharp, and warm when you need it to. I cannot describe the sound you can get from this thing considering the price point - you simply have to hear it for yourself. There are no on-board effects (which is fine, I'm sure saving on the cost) so you'll have to look elsewhere for that. There is a dedicated knob or button for almost everything on this synth, so tweaking and creating patches from scratch is a breeze without even opening the manual. Anyone with any synth experience at all will be right at home with this product.

In closing, the only negative thing I say say about this synth is that there needs to be a better way to navigate the patches! Other than that, this synth simply has to be heard to be believed! If you're thinking about buying this synth, Do. It. Now. close [-]
