The Best Sounding Microphone for the money

I recently upgraded my microphone collection to include a tube microphone. After shopping around and demoing various microphones to include Neumann tube microphones in this price range I have to say ... read more [+]that this is the best of its class. This baby screams pro!! More options than any other microphones at this price and built like a tank. Class A valve circuitry, 6072 twin triode, edge-terminated 1" gold sputtered diaphragm, and custom designed JENSEN transformers. This microphone is warm, transparent, airy on the top end, open, and fat. All of the things you would expect to get from multiple microphones you can get with just one! It comes with a basic mount, shock mount, custom built double shielded oxygen free copper multicore cable with custom designed heavy duty plugs and sockets, and power supply with -10dB and -20dB Pads, a 2 position high pass filter, and 9 polar patterns all of which are adjustable from the power supply itself. And to top it off, all of this comes to you in a solidly built custom aluminum flight case. Great value! Plenty of options. Great Buy! close [-]

Rode Classic

Music Background: Self taught semi pro. Have spent years and thousands of dollars on music and recording.
Warm, fat, realistic and bigger than life. I once recorded a hypnotherapy voice over with the Classic and the warm big sounds was extremely pleasing to listen to. When I first got it I recorded a frie... read more [+]nd playing acoustic guitar and when I played it back it was as if the guitar player was playing live in my room. When I record my friend's vocals they always say they love the sound and they don't get that sound at other studios.

The best way I can describe it is that it has a very large, realistic and soothing sound and stands out from many other mics. close [-]

Hey Cornelius

Hey Cornelius, me thinks your mic had something wrong with it. And as far as seeing these in pro studios, wrong again. You can't go wrong with this mic. The low end is smooth the mids sit beatifully a... read more [+]nd the highs are silk. So I guess you think the mix mag review was a lot of bull? Before you tell all these people to spend all their $$ on the high dollar mics, know what you're talking about. Your review was based on the one mic you have or most likely had and probably sold for a profit... Rode put a lifetime warranty on their beautiful microphone and will honor that warranty promptly. What you shouldhave done is send it back and let them look at it and fix the low end problem cause that's what it was, a problem. Hate to be so harsh but your review of this mic was totally unfair. close [-]

yeah sure ........

i mean lets be real mics are not made these days with the passion of years ago rode is a great company but just really how many times have you seen this mic in a major studio but beside the the image ... read more [+]bashing it just did not perform in the low end sometimes people confuse fat or warm as a theme for that good low end ...the sound of mics like a bock 151 or the 251 or a u47 do this almost to good but this mic fails completely in the low end for me if you a have a baritone style vocal leave this mic alone there are other mics that can give you love there i must say its a great looking mic very heavy too ...anyways its cool in todays arena of music a hyped mid range and high end is whats selling alot of people dont realize what there buying and there is too much marketing hype i used to fall for that too but no more

i did however use a manley massive passive and just eqed the thing to death and ended up getting a decent vocal the manley massive passive is the way to get that mic to sound right but you should not be eqing a mic while tracking it should already sound great out the box

so the ending statement there are mics that are great then there are mics that are justw rong this is one of them but if it works for you then why not but put it like this a good mic will work on 60 percent of people you use it on a great mic can work on 85 to 95 percent of people you put it on a bad mic will work on about 40 percent of the people you record it on this is that 40 percent mic not a man mic at all maybe better for females its not accurate or flattering with it color its just uhhhh a mic

okay so here are a list of great mics you can buy look on gearslutz and see what im saying i have worked and basically have all these mics try em you wont regret it especially if you want to spend 2 grand

bock 151
bock 251
mojave ma 200 (alot better than this mic)
studio projects c-1
manley gold reference
wunder cm7 gt
wunder cm7
innertube audio mag mic ma 2000
horch rmj2
peluso 2247le
sony c800g (at least if your gonna buy a mic hyped this is the one)
gefell um 9000
brauner vma or vmx
there you go try these mics there freaking awesome some are expensive so are just what you need but none are a mistake

i bet you and am sure that 90 percent of you will prefer any of these mics of there rode and before you bash me i love rode the k2 is way better than the classic close [-]
