The Classic Mustang is Back - This Time It's From Fender! The FENDER® Mustang® bass is a true classic in every sense of the word. (Hence being part of Fender's Classic Series.) This thoroughbred reissue of the sought-after Mustang Bass, introduced in '64, is perfect for players who prefer a shorter 30" scale length instrument or players with smaller hands. Crafted with the same materials and construction quality as Precision, Jazz, and Telecaster® basses, this was Leo Fender's last creation for CBS. The Fender Mustang Bass stands as yet another testimonial to Leo Fender's genius. This particular model has been in regular use since 1968, and is ready for 35 more years. Fender Mustang Bass at a Glance:
It's All In The Details The Fender Mustang bass is a seriously great bass that once you play, you won't want to be without. The Classic Series Fender Mustang Bass details include a solid alder body, a split single-coil pickup, and a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, and nickel-silver frets. Shorter Scale Neck The Fender Mustang's short scale has a lot of advantages if you like bending and like a little more trebly, throaty sound. Short scale also lets you do things you can't do on your 34-inch bass (at least, that you can't do as easily), like effortless leaps of six frets without changing position, which makes this perfect for fast playing. Perhaps this is why Stanley Clark plays a short scale (30-3/4" length). You can do riffing with guitar-like ease on this, and it's much easier to control your sound. String spacing is the same as a J-bass at the neck and just slightly narrower at the bridge. But it's the tone you'll really love. Vintage Single-Coil Sound The Fender Mustang Bass single-coil split pickup just sings in such a special way; a truly pleasing, vintage-sounding tone. The Fender Mustang Bass suits surf-rock, country, garage, even blues, some jazz, any roots music, from Beatles to Talking Heads. The Fender Mustang Bass delivers a wide range tone from its split single-coil pickup, which can sound thick and heavy, or bright and punchy. It works great with flatwounds or roundwounds, and responds to pick, finger, or thumb. Despite its simplicity, it is an extremely versatile pickup. The Fender Classic Series Mustang Bass is a limited production reissue. You owe it to yourself to play one. They are just that good. And at slightly over $500, it's incredible!
