Inspired by Kurt Cobain
Let's face it, Kurt Cobain probably wouldn't have jumped at the chance to have a guitar designed for him. His fans loved him for playing music his own way, with what he had to work with. That's actually why Fender was inspired to create the Kurt Cobain Mustang. Kurt favored heavily-modded Mustangs - they were lightweight and easy to play, they were usually inexpensive, and were easy enough to modify if he wanted. The Kurt Cobain Mustang doesn't feature the all the traditional Mustang appointments, but that's how Kurt liked it.

Not your typical Mustang
Fender's Kurt Cobain Mustang features the same 24" scale length and unique body shape as the original Mustangs, but with some noticeable deviations. Most stock Mustangs had a pair of single-coil pickups. The Kurt Cobain Mustang packs a Mustang single-coil in the neck position, but sports a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge position for a screaming hot output. Also, the Adjusto-Matic bridge is a welcome addition and provides excellent intonation.

A New Take on a Classic Design
Fender didn't set out to make an exact replica with the Kurt Cobain Mustang. It's a new guitar based on a classic, perhaps underrated design. A guitarist like Kurt only plays a guitar if it feels and sounds right, and for no other reason. The Kurt Cobain Mustang is made to stand on its own, providing you with a solid tonal foundation and exceptional playability. It just happens to pay tribute to an alternative rock icon too.
