From Our Research Team:

Scan and Store Your Entire Music Library

Serious musicians know that keeping their sheet music safe and accessible is critical. So what if you could scan and store all your sheet music in digital format for display on a 12.1-inch TFT backlit LCD color display? Would that be useful? Weighing in at just over 4 pounds, the MusicPad Pro Plus will display your music without the need for external music stand lighting. You can even annotate and make color notes right on the page of music, zoom in or out, add or erase rehearsal marks and much more. This is truly the 21st century way to manage all your sheet music.

FreeHand Systems MusicPad Pro Plus Features at a Glance:
  • Scan and store your entire music library
  • View your music on a large, easy to read, backlit touch screen
  • 64MB Flash memory/128MB RAM plus 64MB Flash memory module
  • AC power and rechargeable battery
  • Mac and PC compatible with two USB ports

Scan and store your entire music library
By using a Mac or PC, you can easily scan all your sheet music and save it in the MusicPad Pro's onboard memory. You can even download almost 50,000 digital music scores already formatted for the MusicPad Pro Plus from www.sunhawk.com. Once it's onboard, you can annotate or make color notes directly into the MusicPad Pro with full zoom in and zoom out capabilities. Add or erase rehearsal marks and notations while leaving your original sheet music untouched.

View your music on a large, easy to read, backlit touch screen
The large, easy to read 12.1-inch TFT backlit LCD color display eliminates the need for external music stand lighting, thus eliminating clutter. What's more, the low glare touch screen lets you make notes in your own handwriting, correct errors or highlight key passages in a variety of colors. Go ahead and add notes or symbols to each score. A special look-ahead feature with patented half-page turn means you'll never miss a single note. To turn the page, just touch the screen. Or use the display in landscape mode to view two pages at a time. Page turns can also be accomplished by using an optional foot pedal.

64MB Flash memory/128MB RAM plus 64MB Flash memory module
The MusicPad Pro Plus comes standard with 64MB of Flash RAM, 128MB of RAM and a 64MB Flash memory module. You'll be astounded how your entire (often unruly) collection of sheet music fits so neatly into this simple tablet. Tuck it under your arm or in a briefcase or music bag and go! Additional external memory is available.

AC power and rechargeable battery
The MusicPad Pro Plus can easily be powered by AC when it's convenient. When it's not, there are onboard nickel hydride batteries that will run for approximately four hours with the backlit screen set to .5 brightness. Every time you plug the MusicPad Pro into an AC power supply, the batteries will charge up.

Mac and PC compatible with two USB ports
Whether you own a PC or a Mac, the MusicPad Pro is fully compatible with Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP or Mac OS 9.1 or higher, including OS X. Simply connect the MusicPad Pro to your computer via USB or an external USM-Ethernet adapter and you're set to go using the FreeHand software (supplied).

MusicPad Pro works great on the job.

by David Sullivan from San Diego, CA

Music Background: professional guitarist
The MusicPad Pro is outstanding at displaying sheet music. Its backlit LCD screen renders sheet music in a bright, crisp fashion. Page turns are accomplished by a foot pedal, making this a "hands free... read more [+]" digital music reader that is perfect for musicians.

I am a professional musician and make my living playing solo guitar. In the past I had to lug a 4 inch thick 3 ring binder of my arrangements to gigs. The binder was so enormous it threatened to topple my heavy duty music stand. Just to take care of requests from listeners I also had to cart along a portable file box of fake books.

But those days are thankfully over! Whew! With the MusicPad Pro I keep **ALL** my 600+ classical guitar arrangements on a 1GB flash drive that plugs into the "Pad." Each song is at least 3 pages long. Fake book songs were scanned in and saved as well! I can program the device with custom song lists or set lists for any occasion, and it's easy to do a search for a specific song and have it ready to play in seconds.

The backlit screen is perfect for indoor gigs or outdoor gigs, provided you play in the shade. Direct sunlight renders the LCD screen nearly unreadable -- just like taking a laptop outside on a sunny day. You'll never require a reading light again.

The display quality of notes, staff lines, and lyrics is astonishing. It must have something to do with the high pixel rate of the screen. It's like having a super duper ebook reader for musicians. I've been using the MusicPad for over a year, and it's never given me problems. It's built like a tank.

ipod for sheet music

Music Background: Vocalist, Pro Musician
Next to my laptop, this is one of the best things that's happened to my music making life. I bought this mainly for organization. I got tired of looking for charts and having paper all over the plac... read more [+]e. Everything is stored digitally on my computer and a usb thumb drive which plugs into the music pad pro. Charts I own, I scan into the MPP. I can also quickly create playlists for my gigs. No more throwing music down and fumbling for the next song, no more attaching lights to my music stand, no more pages being blown around, no more multiple sheets spread across my keyboard, no more looking for my music. You can even arrange your sheets to follow codas and repeats. Just touch the screen and you're right where you need to be. The other added plus is being able to purchase sheet music for individual songs whenever you want any time of the day or night. Go to freehandmusic.com buy your charts and they load right into your MPP. Easily accessible and organizable. Just like itunes. Although I still think it's a bit pricey, I can't imagine living without it. close [-]

Good But Could Be Great.

Music Background: Classical Guitar
I bought the entire system; case, foot pedal, stand, musicpad pro. $1200.

The system works and I use it everyday but it could be better. Most notably the speed at which it turns the pa... read more [+]ge. Way too slow. When I wrote the company they informed me that the page turning speed could not be changed nor did they plan to include a feature to enhance or change this. BIG, BIG, BIG MISTAKE!

The software is crude. You would be better off with adobe acrobat hooked up to the foot pedal. The main reason I bought this was to change pages without stopping. When I am flying through Bach I have to release the foot pedal at least 2-3 measures before the end of the page, in order for the page to turn by the time I get to the end. IN OTHER WORDS IT'S TOO SLOW!!!

Also, the screen is too small.

It is a great idea but needs a lot of work and a company with a better attitude towards developing their product.

TOO EXPENSIVE, TOO SMALL, TURN PAGES TOO SLOWLY! close [-]

Too Much Money For Too Little Product

by Monte from New York, NY

We bought 12 of these pads about 4 years ago. I thought they would make my music department (and my life) much more efficient, simple, and clutter free. I could not have been more wrong. For nearly $1... read more [+]100.00 each, back then, these pads haven't given me one single day of hassle free use...not to mention the absolutely HORRIBLE to non-existing customer service from the company.

Trying to get a file to convert from Finale or Sibelius to a crisp and legible Freehand Systems format is more work than it's worth. PDF's don't import well at all, instructions on how to convert your existing files...well, let me just say "it's a crapshoot". Spend your money on bigger and more sturdy music bins. If you just gotta have this toy email me and I'll gladly sell you mine for a deeply discounted price. Heck, I may even let them go for case of Pepsi Cola. close [-]
