I watched many YouTube and Sweetwater videos and checked out a variety of keyboards in person. I bought the XS 61 key about 3 weeks ago. This unit is very sophisticated and it DOES seem complex at first. However, within the first hour, I was playing with it and using its performance features to jump start song writing. After about 3 more hours I was able to record and sequence a song. Plus, I was able to pretty easily adjust the EQ in a mix. For all the “sophistication” of this keyboard, I was able to do a lot after 4 hours…and that is really an accomplishment after doing it “The Ensoniq Way” that had been ingrained for so many years. June 11, 2010 Music Background: Composer, performer I have a long drive to and from work everyday, so I took the opportunity to just “listen” to the DVD’s that come with the XS. Those were very helpful and I look forward to watching them. The screen seems to do everything you need, the effects are great and that little USB port in the back is super helpful for adding a LED gooseneck light. The onboard sounds are very good and many are VERY authentic. For the first time, in my keyboard playing experience I can actually play a very cool sounding rock guitar! Certainly, I have many things to learn about this new instrument. That’s half the fun. The way they have designed it, you are almost forced to learn new styles of music you may not have tried before. That’s a good thing. If you have used a synth before, this instrument will really add to your enjoyment of making great music. I like it very much. close [-] The Best and most Versital sound set.

I have used a Prteous 2500 for a few years now and wanted to upgrade. To be fair I was actually looking at the Roland Fatom G6 before I got the Moti XS6f and ended up trying one after I bought the Mot... read more [+]if. I do a style of music that involes aspects of Jazz, Rock electronica and a little Blues (as I am mainly a lead guitarist. My needs run the gammet form authentic sounding electric pianos to cutting edge synth sound and hip arrpegiator patterns I have been through every sound in both and have to say that while the Roland Fantom is very flashy and does have a few more features the bottom line is that sound against sound Fantom CANNOT touch the Motif. The Fantom can compare somewhat in some types of sound but amazingly where it falls short is in electronic sounds. Which is astnoishing since the Fantom seems so gearded towards electronic styles of music. I mean these two are not even in the same class!! The sounds in (especially synthy types) the Motif are so much more usable and there are sounds you won't likley even come close to with the Fantom. The one downside to the Motif is that the operating sytem is a bit complex but, it's worth the effort . close [-]
