Subterranean Bass

The Pelonis Model 42LF is much more than a "subwoofer;" it's a robust low frequency extension system for the Pelonis Model42 studio monitors that will give you tight bass down to 27Hz. This innovative, awesome-sounding monitoring system is the work of noted acoustician and facility designer Chris Pelonis. The woofer's ported enclosure has an 8" driver onboard; the electronics are housed separately in a trim rackmount unit that sends a beefy 200 watts to the sub. "Big monitor" bass response
If you've ever heard a loud playback on the "bigs" (main monitors) in a world-class studio, it's a revelation. For the uninitiated, your first reaction is one of being overwhelmed. After a 45 seconds or so - after you've stopped gasping for air and started getting into it - the first thing you marvel at is the incredibly tight and deep bass - extended, Hertz-wise, to somewhere in the high teens or low 20s. For a modest investment, the Model 42LF gets you tightly down to 27Hz. That's low - low enough to feel the crush of a well-recorded kick drum. To record frequencies this low, you've got to be able to hear them. About Chris Pelonis
Chris Pelonis has a long-standing reputation for designing musical and transparent-sounding facilities. Tasked with acoustic analysis and measurement, materials specification, construction, and installation, it's not surprising that an expertise in monitor design would be a natural extension of these disciplines. In addition to his work as an acoustical designer, consultant and manufacturer, Chris is also a professional musician, engineer / producer, and studio owner, so he possesses the in-front-of- and behind-the-board perspective that allows him to design monitors that "translate" to the world outside the studio.

Externally housed electronics
The Pelonis Model 42LF's electronics are housed externally due to Chris's conviction that nothing good can come of having them in the same enclosure with vibrating transducers. Makes total sense, right? Aside from engineering theory, the purist approach pays big sonic dividends. Used in conjunction with the Model42, the Model42LF gives you tight, deeply extended bass, anchoring a broad, seamless soundstage.
