Stack the deck against bad mixes Your monitors can make or break your recordings. But you can stack the deck against bad mixes with the Pelonis Model 4288 studio monitors. Part of a line of acclaimed critical listening monitors, the Model 4288 is an active bi-amped system powered externally by four 100-watt amplifiers with 96K DSP, housed in a single rackmount unit. A 5-band parametric EQ lets you tailor the sound to your room. Externally housed electronics The Model 4288's electronics are housed externally due to Chris's conviction that nothing good can come of having them in the same enclosure with vibrating transducers. Fair enough. In keeping with the purist design philosophy, the Model 4288s employ a pair of 4" two-way dual concentric speakers. Extreme attention has been paid to time domain accuracy and phase coherence, ensuring that the drivers' output reaches your ears at the same time. The Model 4288 is a monitoring system that clearly reveals your tracks, allowing you to make wise recording and mixing decisions. About Chris Pelonis Chris Pelonis has a long-standing reputation for designing musical and transparent-sounding facilities. Tasked with acoustic analysis and measurement, materials specification, construction, and installation, it's not surprising that an expertise in monitor design would be a natural extension of these disciplines. In addition to his work as an acoustical designer, consultant and manufacturer, Chris is also a professional musician, engineer / producer, and studio owner, so he possesses the in-front-of- and behind-the-board perspective that allows him to design monitors that "translate" to the world outside the studio. You may find equal, but you will not find better in this style. These are amazing speakers and a joy to mix on. The first thing I noticed was the extended bass I was getting with these. My prior... read more [+] set up had used subs and was nowhere near as accurate or complete as the 4288s. These are very revealing through the mids and highs and fatigue does not seem to be an issue. Mixes translate perfectly and I am checking less and less on multiple systems to ensure accuracy. Some may feel limited that they are not as loud as some speakers can get but I had no issues with them. Also, it is a little tricky to get the software running right on a 64 bit system (for eq adjustments) but after I did I found I didn't need it anyway. close [-]
