August 8, 2012 Music Background: live & recording engineer. DJ'ing just got WAY easier
by Dean Watkins from Baltimore, MD
I' have been DJ'ing for 9 years and I have always used BPM studio and beat mixed fine using just the mouse and lots of technique. But in the past few years I've switched to Mac and I was still trying ... read more [+]to find software that functioned the same way BPM studio did. Djay was the closest thing but needed a couple more things to make it right for me. I always steered away from outboard gear to assist the process because it's been too costly. But this piece changes all that! ALL THESE GREAT FUNCTIONS NOW AT YOUR FINGER TIPS. And it's at a fraction of the cost. I have been using it for a month now and it's hard to live without it now.December 28, 2011 Music Background: Musician since I was 8, Recording engineer since 18 and DJ since 2003 PROS: Price, Ease of use, Lots of functions and features and lightweight. The platters are very heavy duty feeling so don't let the whole plastic casing scare you. I don't mind lightweight as long as it preforms. CONS: Lightweight plastic makes it feel cheap (but it's really not), Faders could be smoother, Could use an XLR/ 1/4" combo plug for the mic input and optional XLR outputs. Also a 1/8" optional headphone input. I know the last one seems like it's a crazy request, but most headphones out there now have 1/8" with the adapter for 1/4" and it would just make sense to have one just in case you lose the adapter that you might have lost at another gig or left home since I use my Bose or Dre Beats headphones to DJ with as well as listen to music on my iPhone. From time to time I leave the adapter on the coffee table or some other place besides with me. But all in all this gives you a lot of bang for your money! You won't be disappointed!!! close [-] Numark Mixtrack Pro

I switched from a Numark DMC2 to the Mixtrack Pro in hopes of getting a more authentic dj experience. The Mixtrack Pro has given me this experience, with a few setbacks. I am pretty upset that it do... read more [+]esn't feature a loop scroll like the DMC2 does. You can set a loop on the Mixtrack, but you can't scroll through the rest of the song with it. Not a huge deal, it just made it easier to jog through a song while staying on beat. The loop controls are a little clunky, especially in auto mode. Overall it's a nice home system for personal practice, but not very practical for a dj environment. I will be upgrading in a year or so once I get more practice in. If you're going the serious route, buying something better, don't waste your money on this. close [-]

I rated the mix track pro a 2.5 not because I think its a bad piece of equipment, but, because it it not the product for me. I need more advanced features to accomplish what I want to create. This thi... read more [+]ng doesn't give you any hands on controls for sampling and that is VERY important to me. In the end my engineer Tyler set me up with a return and I am replacing this for the Tracktor S4. If you can go for the better product and use the 3 month payment plan! close [-]
