Musicality and Playability There has never been a body of work that has captured the same depth and beauty of real players putting feeling and emotion into the samples like this collection captured by Miroslav. A highly accomplished musician (one of the founding members of the band Weather Report), Miroslav knew how to bring the most musical aspects of the instruments and players together in a sample collection. Read more about Miroslav Vitous. Beautifully Sampled In The Historic Dvorak Symphony Hall With True Spatial Positioning Because Miroslav sampled the orchestral ensembles in their correct spatial acoustic positioning within the Dvorak Symphony Hall in Prague, one of the best sounding halls in the world, the sounds fit together when layering or multi tracking like a high-quality classical music recording. This gives the sounds of Miroslav Philharmonik an especially rare acoustic quality and realism that is unmatched in the sample world. Read more about Dvorak Hall. This is certainly a decent library for the money, but there are some weaknesses. The most apparent to me is that the loop points on sustained sounds, especially the ensemble strings, are pretty obvio... read more [+]us when soloed up. However, in the context of a pop mix the loops aren't as much of a problem. The other drawback to me is that I find the tonality of many of the sounds have a pretty serious hi-mid edge that makes them quite aggressive and up front sounding, which isn't always appropriate. They can be tamed with eq but they're not always that natural sounding. However, that's a tall order for an orchestral library at this price and I think the value quotient is excellent. The player is easy to use, altho the font size is quite small for old, tired eyes like mine. On the plus side, the included CSR Reverb sounds really good. All in all, as long as you're not expecting the VSL sounds at this price, it's a good and useful Virtual orchestra. close [-]

May 4, 2010 Music Background: Producer, Musician(keyboards) Ups and down

Like any sample library, this one has ups and downs. The string sections and solos sound more synthesized than recorded. I suppose they can be used to color a thick mix, but certainly not to evoke the... read more [+] sound or the mood of real orchestral strings. The choral sounds are quite nice, provided you're ok with only Aah and Ooh vowels, and the blatantly obvious register break. Again, it will sound odd when soloed, but can add great power to a thick mix.September 13, 2008 Music Background: But there are two areas where this collection really shines. First, the harp. It is beautiful. For glisses and arpeggios, or just about anything else, the harp sound is gorgeous. So are the solo woodwinds. They're very expressive, realistic, and if you tweak the attacks just right, you can actually make them sound legato. Flute, oboe, clarinet, English Horn - thanks to Miroslav, I use these far more often than I otherwise would, because they're some of the most beautiful sounds I have in any library. Of course, as you might expect in a collection like this, register breaks are set in stone, so playing legato over the register breaks will sound odd. But if you let the sounds play to their strengths, this is a wonderful library for the price. close [-]
