From Our Research Team:

Audiophile sound on the go!

The MicroTrack II adds even more top-level pro features to the wildly successful handheld recorder that audio and film professionals have used for years for top-notch audio capture. Among the features of this newest generation of MicroTrack are an extended input gain range, analog input limiter, 48V phantom power (an improvement over the 30V phantom power of the original), and faster file transfer. Record WAV (BWF) and MP3 files, and then drag and drop to your computer from the MicroTrack II. If you're seeking portable recording power, choose the MicroTrack II!

M-Audio MicroTrack II CompactFlash Recorder at a Glance:
  • The ideal portable songwriter's notebook!
  • Post MP3s to the Web - instantly
  • CompactFlash storage for flexible recording times
  • Simple file transfers via USB 2.0

Take MicroTrack II with you as a songwriter's notebook
MicroTrack II's mobility and mic preamps also make it ideal for recording practice sessions and gigs, not to mention capturing film-quality sound effects in the field. Balanced 1/4" TRS line outs also make it easy to take a feed directly from a studio or club mixer. S/PDIF input means that you can even record the output of digital mixers and do transfers from other digital recording/storage devices. And regardless of how you choose to record, you can monitor on the MicroTrack II via the 1/8" stereo headphone jack or RCA line outs.

Post MP3s to the Web - instantly
MicroTrack II's ability to record directly to MP3 files and transfer them instantly to the computer means that you can e-mail or post high-quality recordings to the Web immediately. Musicians can e-mail demos to writing/production partners and record companies when the inspiration strikes. Business users can easily upload meetings and presentations for review and wider dissemination immediately. Educators can post classes, lectures and seminars without delay. Faith-based organizations can quickly broadcast worship services and speakers. Professional presenters can create and sell back-end collateral content almost instantly-and the list goes on.

CompactFlash storage for flexible recording times
One of the secrets to the MicroTrack II's compact size is that, like many of today's digital cameras, it records to CompactFlash or microdrives. Upgrade to a 2GB card to maximize your recording time. And with the new BWF file marker ability, you can create marker points while recording a file rather than the stop-and-record-method of the original MicroTrack.

Simple file transfers
Just connect MicroTrack II to your PC or Mac via USB, and it appears as a USB mass storage device showing the unique identification number of each file. Drag and drop the files to your computer's hard drive and your audio is ready to edit and/or post to the Web.

Professional recording - anytime, anywhere
At about the size and weight of a deck of cards, MicroTrack II will go anywhere you need to record-but don't let its small size fool you. Thanks to leaps in miniaturization, this rugged device is in the same class as our critically acclaimed audio interfaces. MicroTrack II's pro-quality preamps complete with phantom power will work with your favorite condenser microphones virtually anywhere you need to capture audio - all the way up to 24-bit/96kHz. MicroTrack II is powered via long-life lithium-ion batteries.

M-Audio MicroTrack II Features:

Stunning Recording Quality, Palm Sized Wonder

by Studio House from Fort Wayne, IN

Please don't listen to "legendary musician from Washington", he simply doesn't know his equipment. The M-Audio MicroTrack II is simply an excellent piece of quality recording equipment. While testin... read more [+]g the unit for the first time, I was recording with a video camera while simultaneously recording with the MicroTrack II for audio. When I finished my "test project", I realized that I could hear - in perfect clarity - my footsteps across the carpet. I WAS WEARING SOCKS. I could go on and on about the impeccable sound quality, ease of use and included accessories. BOTTOM LINE; THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE, IN ANY FIELD, needing an affordable, quality recording device, that is easy to use.

Also, I have some clients that now INSIST that their acoustic instruments be recorded on the "M-Audio" rather than traditional microphone set-ups in my studio - after hearing for themselves the difference. There's your proof folks. close [-]

Great device, and great advice from Sweetwater

I leaned heavily on Sweetwater's advice by phone to make a final digital recorder selection, and they recommended the MicroTrackII.

The Ultimate Portable Recorder

I'm sure I'm not alone when I tell you that I have gone through my share of recording devices, from 4-track cassette to reel to reel, DAT to ADAT, I've used them all. What's amazing is that this devic... read more [+]e can do all of what those things used to do, and it fits in my cellphone pocket. I can run a 2-track mixdown straight into here without firing up a daw or using up precious CPU. I can throw some PDF files on here and run them to the copy shop, and if I need to record a quick voice-over or something for a podcast, I can run into a closet and record with the included mic and get a really clean sound. I've got a 1Gig card on here, so I can actually record 17 HOURS of MP3 or 30 minutes of WAV at 24bit/96k. It mounts onto the computer really seamlessly, and it's useful for moments of quick inspiration. I dig it, and so will you. close [-]

Microtrack review

The unit is severely hampered by a couple of items.First, unless you have great vision it is very difficult to determine if recording is active or not.

The info on the lcd is very small so freq... read more [+]uently you think you are recording when in fact it is in setting level mode. I have the extra 10db attenuator, but this unit needs a high pass filter. The battery is built in and when it is dead and you are remote you are screwed.

I use this for field recording, video and live concert recording. Of course if they made a better to plug in the usb that would be great. I think these are serious shortcomings that could be addressed. For example a usb battery, a recording indicator light and a software high pass filter and attenuator built in for live recording. Other than that a very good unit close [-]

Battery died in 1 month. Company very unresponsive. When I got through, they said they would replace the battery for $70. Don't bother with this one.

Our Customers Say...

I can talk to my Sales Engineer about any piece of equipment, and he always steers me in the right direction. He truly knows what he's talking about, and he never tries to over-sell me on anything. If he worked in the Nashville area, I'd probably owe him about 20 dinners by now!
