One MacBook Caveat

So far it is working well, but I did run into one problem that I initially thought was the fault of the MicMate...

Apparently some laptops put a lot of devices on the same USB bus. On my MacBook, the camera, keyboard, trackpad, and other devices share a bus with the rear USB port. This makes the MicMate glitch-prone after a minute or so of recording.

Switching to the front (dedicated) USB port, I haven't had any troubles yet.

So make sure you check your computer's USB buses before drawing any conclusions... or just use a powered hub.

For me it's really cool, very transparent quality sound and low noise, i recommend it to anyone, only 1 error on it: needs a software, not drivers, something to control the volume like MXL and Samson softpre

I got this because I just wanted a simple, portable way to get a USB connection from my condenser microphone. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I plugged it into my iMac and changed the input to the USB device and I was ready to go.

I couldn't give it 5 stars for a few reasons. It doesn't come with a USB cable. It's not a huge deal, but you still need to spend $10-$15 on one if you don't already have one lying around (it's the same kind that USB printers use).

Also, when I had it plugged in using an XLR cable and a USB cable, I was getting weird static-y noises, and I had to unscrew the ends in order to get a good connection.

Other than that, I would recommend this to anyone needing a simple solution to turn any microphone into a USB microphone.

This works great for getting scratch tracks recorded while Im on the road. I can record vocal melodies I want to remember and still get a good quality sound while using a KSM. Highly recommended for anyone not wanting to carry around a fire wire interface. Just know you need to set your hardware preferences sound out to your sound card or you cant hear the audio back. Cant wait to see what other features MXL will fit in to these small packages.
