Terrific technology which preserves musicality
by Bob from Scotts Valley, CA, April 2008
Music Background: 35+ years semi-pro musician, 20+ year software engineer
I'm part of a choral group for which my wife and I record practice tracks. This keeps us cranking away at times when we're not at our best, and sometimes singing out of our respective ranges. I researched the available pitch correction tools out there carefully before trying out Melodyne... and was immediately sold.
Being in "crunch mode," I put the tool to use immediately without even consulting the manual, and was able to "buff" several tracks with *no* perceptible artifacts whatsoever. (In the process I only discovered two features for which I had to consult the manual later.)
I've used Melodyne to shift my voice as much as an octave (which does produce minor noticeable formant changes) and to pitch-correct dozens of tracks in two (part-time) days.
Signal processing is a well-known science, but I haven't seen it applied with such a high level of musicality; in my book, these guys have done it right.

I have used uno for a couple years and thought the plug in version would save me lots of time. If you are used to uno or the rewire version it will take you forever to adjust to the plug in. All the short cuts do not work and you have to save in real time which takes a lifetime if you are tuning 18 R&B BGV's. Melodyne, the technology is amazing... Melodyne the interface and work flow needs improvement.
Best pitch correction I've used yet!

I've got all of the major pitch correction plugins including, Waves Tune, Antares auto tune 5 and I must say, Melodyne is the most accurate and easiest to use out of the bunch. Don't let the price fool you. This one is the new industry standard.
It's the best pitch corrector - but...
by Nathanael Davenport from Rexburg, ID, November 2007

Melodyne is a revolution in pitch correction, not to mention audio correction in general, since it also works on percussive material. Celemony has pulled off some incredible engineering in this product. It works extremely well and does what it was designed to do with few hitches.
However, my only qualm has to do with the philosophy of Melodyne - I'm sure one of the main purposes for it's being is to save studio time - however, to do a transparent pitch correction job on vocals, for example, it often comes down to examining every single note - something that most users can attest is not a trivial job. And even then, an astute ear can hear some evidence of pitch correction in operation.
So - why don't we use the time that would be spent in a Melodyne session recording alternate vocal takes and comping, and have ourselves authentic vocals that will ALWAYS sound better than pitch corrected vocals. I really don't think that it takes that much more time to do it. And you didn't have to shell out the money for it.
However, if you work with amateurs a lot, you may find that this gives you an edge, since comping alternate takes usually doesn't get you anywhere with amateur voices. And, Melodyne is also useful for more things than pitch correcting vocals, as has already been noted. Just some thoughts to help you make a decision!
The new industry standard
by Dave from Orem, UT, July 2007
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Composer, Musician,
I have used several pitch correction programs and I have also been with Melodyne since version 2.5. I have used Melodyne to correct hundreds of vocal tracks. Nothing is as easy, flexible, great sounding and more detailed than Melodyne. Plus, the interface is much more intuitive than anything else.
Melodyne sounds great because you can correct vocals without even effecting vibrato. Often all a note needs is a little nudge sharp or flat which is done so easily. The correct pitch drift option on notes is a great way to get rid of the notes that drift out of pitch without getting that flattened vibrato sound. The way I get the best sounding results is by transferring the vocals into the plug-in. Then I go through the audio piece at a time and make only the pitch adjustments that are needed to retain most of the natural performance. Of course, you could choose to correct everything quickly at once and flatten the vibrato just like the other pitch correction programs if you would like.
The plug-in makes things so much easier. I haven't even used Melodyne Cre8 since the plug-in. If you have a DAW such as Sonar where you can apply the effects from the effects bin, then you can choose to print the changes directly on to the audio within seconds. The plug-in has been a bigger time saver for me than Cre8.
Their customer support is also amazing! When ever I have sent them an email a few times, I have got a response from the developers (not customer service reps) within 2 days.
Choose Melodyne and you will never look back to the hard to use interfaces and flattened vibrato sounding competitors.
