PreSonus MaxRack Reviews

Customer Reviewsfrom Lyons, CO September 4, 2010 Music Background: Recording engineer, studio owner, active musician Solid, quality mini-rack even if a bit priceyI've been using one of these for a few years now and it provides me with a nice and portable collection of electronics for my DAW. It is great for a portable project studio. The MaxRack itself is extremely sturdy and, while the screws are tight, mine certainly work fine. It /did/ seem there was potential for cross-threading.Now what I find to be braindead with the whole MaxRack concept is related to the power supplies for the electronics. Since each unit in the rack requires a wall wart, you end up with a six pack of very annoying wall warts. This creates a huge external wiring mess from the power strip to the mini-rack AND really undermines if not eliminates the portability advantage. PreSonus really needs to provide another 1/3-rack unit in this series that is a power adapter for one to six units. This power adapter should have one AC power cord out the back and 6 numbered power jacks on the back so that 6 male-to-male DC power plugs can be run to the rack mount units. The front panel should have individual lighted power switches. So IMO, the rack itself is very high quality but until they provide a cohesive power solution, you'll be saddled with a collection of wall warts that are like a ball and chain for an otherwise great collection of electronics. (FWIW, I'm going to see if I can find the parts and custom build / hack my own power supply.) from El Paso, TX December 14, 2009 Music Background: Music educator, live sound, recording. Piece of junkScrews they send you don't fit, therefore you cannot put this thing together. I expected more from something this pricey! |
