Manley Massive Passive ReviewsSweetwater Advice
Jeffrey Green
My experience with the Massive Passive has been rewarding in that my mixes are musically transformed as if the elements are tied together in very much the same way a half-inch analog two-track or very nice stereo bus compressor does. It is not "effecty", however, but it does exhibit strong vintage character. It is smooth and musical in it's operation and works wonders on elements that are difficult to equalize such as vocals. If you are considering an EQ that exhibits qualities such as I have described, then look no further - the competition simply does not exist in either hardware or plug-in form.
Customer Reviewsfrom dublin, ireland January 20, 2008 Music Background: sound engineer student massivo! The Massive Passives intended use is for radical EQ changes sometimes needed for tracking as well as the more subtle shadings for vocals and mastering. The Manley Massive Passive gets its unique sound from its special hardware makeup. This eq uses no active circuitry for tone shaping. This gives this eq the ability to subtly sweeten or shade the audio. Even when using extreme settings the sound still remains subtle.Despite this the results are allways more satisfying than the original sound. This eq's boost, cut and bypass switches on each of the bands are invaluable allowing the user to get the desired sound fast. The Manley Massive Passive exhibits a strong vintage character with a smooth and musical sound. This eq works extremely well on sounds that are awquard or difficult to equalize such as vocals. The Manley Massive Passive has great clarity and depth in the mid range. The high end works well but if pushed too far the sound can become crunchy.unusually using the shelf mode on the high frequencies appears to give more air than using a bell.
