From Our Research Team:
Distinctive and DangerousThe FENDER® Modern Player Marauder heralds the encore of a near-mythical guitar of the '60s. If you're looking for a distinctive FENDER®, the Marauder is it. You get a comfortable offset-waist body, a fast C-shaped neck capped with a 9.5"-radius rosewood 'board and jumbo frets, and a vintage-style trem. The electronics are the kicker: a Jazzmaster™ pickup in the neck position serves up sweet single-coil chime, while a Fender Triplebucker at the bridge (yes, it's got three coils) spews out a pyroclastic surge of white-hot molten tone. Sweetwater has your weapon: the Fender Modern Player Marauder.
Fender Modern Player Marauder at a Glance:
The Modern Player Marauder has an offset-waist contoured body. There's something incredibly playable about Fender's offset-waist instruments (Jaguar, Jazzmaster™, and of course, the Jazz Bass). First of all, when seated with the guitar on your right thigh (if you're a righty), the design shifts the business end of the axe over to the left, so you're addressing the instrument pretty much straight-on. And playing in a standing position, you get the same comfortable playability. Our spines are forever indebted to Leo Fender for this slick innovation.
The Fender Modern Player Marauder has to have the most unusual electronics we've seen in a long while. For rhythm work, nothing beats a single-coil in the neck position. In the Marauder, a Jazzmaster pickup handles these duties flawlessly, giving you chimey spank and sparkle that's warmer than a Strat®, but without any loss of clarity. For take-no-prisoners lead tone, Fender's stationed a rare beast at the bridge. The Fender Triplebucker is a pit bull of a pickup. With three coils, you get thick, snarling output that's probably illegal in several states. A 5-way blade situated in the lower bout serves up the expected pickup combinations (including a drop-dead gorgeous 50/50 blend), plus a couple of very tasty coil-splits. Fender's Modern Player Marauder is a serious tone machine. And so affordable!
It's hard to think of the Fender Modern Player Marauder as an "entry-level" instrument. Throughout its history, Fender has always made a point of welcoming new players to the fold by offering high-quality, affordable entry-level instruments such as the Duo-Sonic, Mustang® and Musicmaster™ - all with beaucoup style, great tone, and awesome playability. The Modern Player series continues this great tradition, giving you modern features and fresh, unconventional takes on selected classic Fender instruments.

Fender modern player Marauder review
by Mark from ChicagolandFirst off I'm 57 and a player collector. Lots of Gibson & Fender guitars. Just got the modern player Marauder. Shipped double boxed by Sweetwater. NOT supplied with gigbag but very well packed. The fi... read more [+]t and finish is perfect. The exact same quality as the Japan built Mustand Special I just bought and better than MIM production. Finish is flawless, neck is super straight, great gloss finish like my Mustang, good color and feel to the rosewood fretboard, no fretting out or buzzing and frets feel medium jumbo to me. Just right. Tuners are tight and accurate. No slop. Nut cut perfectly. Feels like a Pleked neck. Neck pickup is toneful, jazzy and sweet. Bridge triple bucker is very good with a very"Fender" sound and reminds me of cross between Strat & Tele. Five position selector gets all the right sounds. Volume & tone controls very progressive. Tone control is NOT an on off switch. Most impressed with neck pocket! Super tight and accurate. Far better than an MIM I have or have had. Now don't get me wrong, I am a buy American guy and back that up with my purchases. But this guitar raises the bar for everybody and Fender is producing top notch products at a way affordable price. close [-]

Amazing Guitar for the Price
by Jim from Falls Church, VAI received my Marauder in the lake placid blue color a little over a month ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. Fender kept pushing back the shipment date on these, which was annoying, but the fina... read more [+]l product was well worth the wait. Out of the box, the guitar was set up extremely well. The action was perfect, and I was instantly amazed at all of the great tones I could get from the various pickup settings. I also noticed right away that the guitar stayed in tune, no matter how much I bended the strings. The volume and tone knobs work as intended, and I cannot find a single issue with the guitar from an operational or cosmetic standpoint. The neck is very playable and silky smooth. The only minor issue I have is that the whammy bar knocks the guitar out of tune quite easily, so I have to use a little finesse whenever I use it. I don't use whammy bars very often, so that isn't a major issue for me, and I just take it off the guitar.

Overall, this is an excellent guitar for guitar players at any level. I can say this as I've been playing for 22 years. I own several guitars, some of which are much more expensive than the Marauder, but I feel that this guitar is as good of quality and deserves as much respect as any of them. For a guitar this price that is made in China, I am really blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of it. I expect to keep this guitar for the rest of my life and enjoy countless hours playing it. By the way, I want to thank Sweetwater for doing such a great job at providing excellent customer service with this guitar purchase. The company has gained another loyal customer. close [-]

Fender Modern Player Marauder
by Andrew Zito from Lewiston, NYI almost sent it back, because it was made in china. All my guitars are all American made, and are mostly G&L's, Fenders & Martin's. So I decided to plug it in. I first tuned it, then put it through... read more [+] my Vox AC 15 T/B and then my Jack Sherman (Red Hot Chili Peper Guitarest) Moded Amp (Peveay Clasic 30 in name only ). Let me tell you boy's & Girl's this baby smokes. From the coolest fat sounding Jazz tones to soul melting hot molton metal sounds. So you guest right, it's a keeper. So now I'll just cut the nut a wee bit deeper to about .07 from the frets restring with Thomastic 10-48, tune, ajust the neck, retune and set intonation. As a kicker, the build quaility on this guitar is super. The fret ends are polished nicely, no finger snags & the five way slider offers up some very cool and interesting sounds. The tone control is very nice, not just a treable or bass ajust, but the tone control is just that. It adds great color to the many sounds it offers up. One other thing, I'm cutting an oak block to kill the trem. And an other thing, the Koto Wood used for the body, is very tonefull and Eco friendly as well.
