The Micro Rhythm Track!

Zoom's MRT-3 Micro RhythmTrak is an incredible stand-alone drum machine, and is also the perfect add on to any digital audio recorder that lacks a built in rhythm programming. The unit has a consistent appearance and functions with the new MRS-4 4 track digital recorder. The MRT-3 features 7 velocity sensitive drum pads, 50 preset and 20 user drum kits (user can make an original drum kit), 200 preset and 99 user patterns, 99 song memory (maximum notes/events: 10,000), 21 note polyphony, quantizes to 96 PPQN, and tempos of 40-250 BPM.

Connections include a Mono out (Line) 1/4" phone jack, Stereo out (Line and Headphone) 1/4" stereo phone jack, a MIDI Input and a Control foot switch jack. The unit is powered by 4 "AA" batteries or an optional AC adaptor.

Best Money Iv'e EVER spent

What a deal!!! The sounds are great, it is easy to use and program. The variety of rhythms is good. Your'e bound to find one that suits your needs,it also comes with preset fills and it runs on batter... read more [+]ies. I take it to work and on my hour lunch break and noodle around with it. If you need a good basic drum machine with good sounds and are not a snob that needs it to do your laundry or whatever, this little guy kicks butt. It is not very often that I get blown away with a product, but this puppy for it's price did so. I highly recommend it. close [-]

A must have

For $99 this thing is loaded. Quite easy to use once you get a hang of it. Very realistic drum sounds and pads you can drum on. Easy to record in real time or step timing. See the pads light up as it ... read more [+]plays. This machine smoothed out my guitar playing and just plain fun. Lots of grooves (there's 396 of 'em built-in) and after I found a few, I jammed, jammed, jammed till I can't jam no more. I'd never thought I can improvise like this before. Improved my playing too. I must warn you, this thing's too much fun.

Are there a downside? One thing, while it looks pretty well built I'm afraid to drop it so I'm going to build a wooden box for it(or find one)and it'll be permanently installed in it. That's a $100 unit and it looks too easy to break.

Another thing, how can I save my song outside of the box? Lots of work to put together patterns (or write your own) to make a song and accidently wipe them out. Most likely I would have to live record them by mike and save them to disk. close [-]

does the job

Music Background: former tourist, session studio guy, engineer, soundman... now just having fun
First of all, this is meant for obsessive headphone home recording types. It is not a live gig drum machine, as the patterns are tedious to call up in a live scenario. IF you are (like me) used to lon... read more [+]g nights alone in your room piecing together a recording of a musical idea, IF you have the patience to program, this thing is ideal for you. The sounds are outstanding, the responsiveness, etc. It isn't as easy to use as other machines with twice as many pads but this thing is full of seriously good sounds and nice responsive dynamics on them.

But it does take a while to program, to get the most out of it. If you write music and want a rockin song demo, use it... far easier than a isolation booth and a ton of expensive mics for a background rhythm track.

My suggestion: if you want it to sound like a 'live' drummer, use the dry sounds, not the ones with built in reverb or room ambiance. That way when you mix everything together they blend into a single ambience tone with the guitar and bass tracks, all going through the same reverb at the mixdown stage. The wet sounds are nice and cute to play around with, but on a master recording, you want the dryest tones possible so you can blend it into the rest of your mix with outboard reverb and such. close [-]

Our Customers Say...

My Sales Engineer is the best. If I need it tomorrow, I have it tomorrow. He makes sure everything is in order and that I'm set up right. I've spent a lot of money at other places, too, but I don't remember them calling me to make sure everything's okay.
