Power, Clarity and Inspiration

By Bob Blackwell from Charlotte N.C. on October 25, 2009 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Student

I listen to the Mackie HR624mk2, The Yamaha HS80, The KRK Rokit 8 and The Mackie MR8. When the sound man turned on the Mackie MR8’s, I could not believe my ears.
It was unreal that such power and sound clarity could come from anything at this price point. Now I own them and I'm still amazed every time I go into my project studio. These monitors translate well in the car, home stereo, alarm clock, and the club.

these babies blow me away!!! These speakers give me a really nice representation of my low end along with my 10 inch subwoofer. now i can mix with confidence and nothing beats laying out a bangin beat and being able to crank it for a few minutes to vibe with your material!! plenty of power!!!

Hi, i looked for new monitors recently and compared the KRK RP 8 / Yamaha HS80 / Alesis M1 and the Mackie Mr8.

I was blowen away by the MR8 monitors, these are the best at that price-range at this moment.

They have a clear/open sound and a big sweetspot. so give them a try, its worth it!

MR8, theyre grreatt

yes i know, I'm cheesy on the title. But here's the lowdown on these speakers. With the switches on normal settings (no boost or cut), they're as natural as Niagara Falls. Push the switch for bass and you still have crystal clear sound across all frequencies, with the low end that people crave out of the KRK Rokit G2's (and that's on +2db). I also compared these to the Yamaha HS80m's... those monitors distort like crazy. The mackies can be pushed hard and never think twice about distorting (I don't know why you would want them that loud though to be honest).

Anyways, bottom line, if you need a 8" monitor, want true uncolored sound, and have a small budget, these belong in your studio. Just a warning... They're a bit big compared to the KRK's. About 2 more inches all around, make sure you have the desk space.

The sweet spot does exist!!!

MY first pair of monitors so I dont have much to base it on, but I am very satisfied. It is clear to me now how essential studio monitors are when mixing or just playing around. Even playing music or watching a dvd on my computer. They sound great!

Sound great but build quality sucks.

Be wary since they moved manufacturing to china, with little and very responsible use they blew up, beyond repair apparently and just out of warranty. Avoid, buy something better. Sound great, dont last long.
