Good Moniters

This is not a bad rating for them, I really think for a starting monitor that they sound good. They are far from even for any audio buffs. But they have a good sounding for a 5 inch speaker.
Phenomenal

These monitors are absolutely worth their small pricetag. Its as simple as that. Music sounds clear and powerful. These are a perfect entry-level set of studio monitors for people who just don't have room or money for some big 8 inch monitors. It is very nice having room correction controls on the monitors that you just don't get with other monitors in this range. Recommended.
Amazing value

I purchased these monitors after doing some market research on my own for about a month. After listening to a pair at a local dealer, I knew these monitors weren't too good to be true.
If you're looking for a pair of monitors on a budget (especially if you're a student like me) check these out! Although most 5-inch studio monitors are said to have mediocre to poor low-end, the MR5's rear-firing port gives them plenty of bottom. The highs sound great and go easy on the ears, and the built-in waveguides provide for good imaging. The MR5's also sport high- and low-frequency adjustment switches (which you can see in the pictures). The only feature I didn't really like was the input trim nob which is small and makes it difficult to tell if the volume is the same for each speaker.
All in all I believe these are great monitors; Mackie really developed a great design for 5-inch studio monitors!
Amazing Monitors!!!

I just recieved these monitors as my first set of studio monitors, never having even heard true studio monitors before, I'm absolutely blown away by the clarity and response of the MR5's. The features offered, like the room adjustment switches are not typically found on monitors in this price range, and because of the Mackie name, you also get EAW engineering. Worth every penny to me!
Excellent Monitors at an Incredible Price!

I had been using KRK V4 Series 2 monitors in my project studio due to space constraints - all the while waiting for Mackie to hopefully introduce a smaller set of monitors that I could use. My wait has ended! Looking at the specs for the 2 sets of speakers, I was somewhat skeptical that the Mackies would sound that much better. They do. The low end on these is amazing - almost like having a sub. The highs are crystal clear while the mids are accurate and allow you to hear every detail. As a video editor, these qualities are important to me and Mackie has truly outdone themselves with the MR5s - especially at this price - upgrading was a no brainer for me!
MR5 Good News

I just got the mr5s last week. I had some time this weekend to test them out and they performed well. I have used 824s and owned a set of event asp8s for 2years. In the small room that I am packed into now with the mr5s I am hearing things in my mix that I never heard before. Don’t get confused I am not saying that the mr5s are better than the asp8s. I was using the asp8 as a near field monitor in a room that was acoustically unable to handle them. The mr5s create less “disturbance in the room making listening to them more comfortable and accurate. That to me makes the mr5s better for my application/situation. I can really hear overtones and mud. The stereo imaging is great in my opinion. The mackies are more proof to me that I can get a better mix in an ok room with a quality reasonably priced monitor than in a bad room with more expensive monitors. Bottom line I think these are great monitors and an extremely good value.
I was surprised
by crc from usa, January 2008

I bought the MR5's as a second set of nearfeilds for my home studio in which I also have 8" monitors. I expected the MR5's not to have much bass response before I bought them, but I was surprised when I turned them on, they sound really good especially for the price. I'm not sure how much "crank it" abuse they can take as I monitor whith these while mixing at moderate levels.
