Sweetwater Advice

Mike Harris
MPC" means Music Production Center, and that is exactly what this is. Since 1988, the MPC series has been responsible for your favorite beats by your favorite producers. Nothing sounds and feels like real MPC swing...Nothing!
Carson McClain
Imagine having a virtual analog synth, an MPC4000 on steroids, a sample library already loaded, and a hard disk recorder all at your fingertips (MPC pad fingertips). The MPC has been the foundation of hip hop and electronic for years. The new MPC5000 is going to take your music to the next level. With its new computer-friendly features there will be nothing stopping you from working inside of the MPC and then taking your tracks to the computer for mastering. By the way, you are going to love the drum chopping capabilites and synth sounds this machine has to offer.

Something To Consider Insight And Advice

AKIA MPC's are the structural building block for Hip-Hop music, mainly every big name Hip-Hop producer uses one. Weather it's new or old. Just to name a few producers: Just Blaze, Kanye West, Dr.Dre, Scott Storch, Hovc, Alchemist and many others. If your just starting to produce Hip-Hop music, than this item may not be right for you to purchase. You might want to purchase an older MPC, because the older MPC'S aren't so technically advance and don't really have that many features as the MPC 5000 does. Once you become an expert with the older MPC than by all means move up. If you do purchase an MPC 5000, read the operating manual to see what all that it can do. Call the manufactures to get knowledge. Use Sweetwater resources as well. Obtain as much knowledge as you can. Again, get familiar with it before trying to play with it. It helps a lot. For the people that are well familiar with MPC'S and are looking to upgrade than this is a good investment, but before purchasing it do your research. REMEMBER

okay, OS 2.0, definitely has keymapping. it can import any 'akai' format, and can create its own keymaps.
it can preview synth sounds before loading.
it can automate effects and synth parameters, as well as all mixer channels.
it can move from screen to screen 'much' easier, with many sequencing screens much more detailed and easier to use, like grid edit.
everything is made more in depth, including sample edit screen.

you can now go 'very very' deep into this machine.

what cons at this point? well, 8 track HD recorder can't compete with software.
(where as sequencing midi definitely exceeds software)
and something very peculiar is going on with auto slice.
but even the manual part of slicing has been greatly enhanced.

its on a new level, for sure, especially with the lower price.

a 'beast' either way you look at it

the midi timing on this thing with 960 ppq is the tightest of any machine i have ever used, ...i've used software such as cubase 4, ....i've use mv 8000, mpc 1000, mpc 2000xl. ....no timing i have ever encountered as compared to the 'tightness' of this machine. the synthesizer is made my numark who bought alesis, ...and now owns akai, ....so you have the andromeda, the ion, ...and micron, ...and now you have that line/knowledge put into a 3 oscillator VA... ...and if you learn it, ...it is a 'very' good synthesizer, ...most people i've talked to who also own the 5000 are 'very' impressed by the synthesizer.

there is an 8 track hard disc recorder, ....this is true, ...there is one, ...and if you need it, you will be able to use it... ...that is all i can say about it.
....i don't think its fast, ...or awesome, ...or better than anything, ...rather, it is very very basic. ...but many people (hip hop) producers are using it and using it alone, ...with perhaps a phantom or a moog, ....

there is no 'key-group' mapping like is found in the 4000, ...if you are building complex instruments, you need to use either a software sampler or the sampler found in hardware modules, (motif, phantom, korgs, etc.) this is a sound/drum sampler and a sequencer, ...the sound is 'real' the sound is 'phat', there is no other or better drum sampler/sequencer on the face of the earth, ....the synthesizer is 'very' good and i can almost garauntee that you 'will' use it and find uses for it.

...oh, ...and it has an 8 track hard disk recorder, ..no frills.
