Baked Maple Fingerboard
The Gibson Melody Maker Special sports a baked maple fingerboard. No, that's not a dessert confection. Baking the wood in a special oven makes the wood water resistant, hard and stable (perfect for fingerboards), with snap and attack similar to ebony - but with a more traditional appearance. As no chemicals are used, the process is also earth-friendly. Always an innovator, Gibson - in the face of tightening world supplies of certain woods - again shows its leadership in materials engineering in the quest for new and improved tonewoods for its guitars.

Slim taper mahogany neck
The Gibson Melody Maker Special has a comfortable, fast-action neck. Whether you're chording down low or soloing up high, Gibson's distinctive '60s Slim Taper always feels just right. With its slick baked maple fingerboard, this guitar is a lean, mean rock machine.

Nitrocellulose finish
The Gibson Melody Maker Special wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose laquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the '60s and '70s - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities.
