From Our Research Team:

A Real Bargain for a Real Gibson!

When you consider the expanded Melody Maker lineup from Gibson, it's easy to see that Gibson's tradition of providing great, affordable guitars is still very much alive today. Although the 2011 Melody Maker line is a limited run (and you DON'T want to miss out on this) these guitars are priced so that any guitarist can pick one up. The Gibson Flying V Melody Maker brings the post-modern vibe of the late '50s/early '60s to the iconic Melody Maker simplicity. Its thin and light body makes the Flying V Melody Maker an incredibly comfortable guitar to play, and its 1-piece set mahogany neck gives you the rock-solid sustain you need.

Unlike the single-coil pickups found on Melody Makers in the past, the Flying V Melody Maker features a 491T ceramic-magnet humbucker controlled by only a simple volume knob. This simple configuration gives you the purest tone possible, plus the outstanding punch of a humbucker. Simply put, the Flying V Melody Maker is an instrument made for a true guitar-lover.

Gibson Flying V Melody Maker Solidbody Electric Guitar Features at a Glance:
  • Color: Satin Ebony
  • Grain textured satin finish
  • Single 491T ceramic-magnet humbucker with a volume control give you a pure tone with humbucker punch
  • Ultra-playable Melody Maker neck profile
  • Rock-solid wraparound tailpiece and set neck provide excellent sustain
  • Gig bag included

The Flying V Melody Maker Solidbody Electric Guitar is a genuine Gibson for a fantastic price!

Not A "Toy" Guitar ... It really is a Gibson!

by R. Love from Philaldephia, PA

Music Background: Playing for 30 years!
OK. When I first saw the new 2011 Limited Edition Melody Maker line from Gibson, I thought how good can a $500 guitar really be? I thought I would purchase one to kick around the house. Not too worrie... read more [+]d about getting a few bangs and dings along the way kind-of-axe. Just always leave it sitting out on a stand for those moments you need to rip out a few shreds. Man was I surprised! This Melody Maker Ebony Flying V is a really, really good guitar. A REAL Gibson with that Gibson quality and sound ever so evident!

It has a definite crunch sound to it, but yet clan play as clear as a bell when you want it too. The sustain is fantastic and the notes will just hang on and on. I have had this new axe in my hand since yesterday and have only put t down to sleep. You would think that a guitar with only a volume knob would be a pretty "plain Jane" type of axe ... WRONG. The sounds that you can pull from this guitar by tweaking your amps tone and volume and the volume control on the Melody Maker are pretty amazing. Now I know why there are so many Melody Maker enthusiasts out there. Never really understood that before yesterday! The humbucker has a great sound and can hold up to any mix you may find yourself strumming through!

After a few adjustments of lowering the action on the wraparound tailpiece (not very precise but very doable without buzzing), and tightening the tuner head bolts, this guitar plays really great and it does stay in tune very well. The finish is really nice once you give it a coat of good guitar polish. I really like the “torrified” (heat treatment) maple fret board. Looks similar to rosewood color, yet is has a very fast, dense and very smooth similar feel of a maple Fender-type board.

Since this is a 2011 limited edition Gibson, if you are thinking of getting one, you had better pick one up fast! Only 600 of each model style ... and that is for all retailers in the USA! The best $500 dollars you will ever invest in a guitar!

PS. This is the fourth guitar that I have purchased from Sweetwater since April! One Les Paul Studio (nice!), A Fender American Special Telecaster (sweet!), A Wechter Pathmaker Elite Acoustic (oh baby!) and now the Melody Maker Flying V model.

The best service and delivery in the industry bar none! The guitars are actually checked and set-up for you before they leave the Sweetwater facility. Mike Arrango is a great and knowledgeable guy, and he always follows-up with orders, up-dates, etc. I think he should get a BIG raise! close [-]
