TRUE Headphone Monitors, now with HD (extended) range
by Bob Tango from Smithtown, NY / Orlando, FL //Soon to a town near you!, November 2006
Music Background: Recording Engineer. Live Engineer, Post Engineer, Drummer
I have been a professional Audio Engineer for more than 23 years. I have used the vast number of headphones on the market. I have been given some of the world's most VERY expensive headphones, along with used some very highend models in different studios around the country. My personal favorite is the SONY MDR-7509's. I just this week picked up another pair for my home studio set-up. (which makes 6 pairs now) I noticed something a little different, they said HD. So I figure, here we go..But let me tell you I can hear the difference. These phones are made with GREAT workmanship, VERY VERY comfortable and of course with OUTSTANDING sound. If you are a singer, guitar player or the drummer(that's me too) JUST BUY THESE!! These are very detailed , crisp and thick sounding.
Awesome headphones
by Sebastian Manuel from New York City, September 2006
Music Background: Remixer/producer
I originally bought Sony mdr-7506 to use with my macbook pro when on the road. I felt very comfortable with their clarity and accuracy and I dont feel the need of a dedicated Audio interface to power them up. Now I have decided to switch from Beyerdynamic Dt770 to the Sony MDR-7509 for the Studio. I really like this combination. 7506 for travelling and 7509 for the studio :) .
I found the sony more suitable for my style of music (dance/electronica) than the beyerdynamic, also the sony are more comfortable....I used to feel the presure of the Beyer on my head to be too much.
Accurate and Comfortable Set of Headphones
by , July 2006
I spent quite some time looking into various models of high-end headphones to provide a method of going over rough mixes and sound design on my own time without waking up the city. I concluded, rather tentatively, that the Sony MDR-7509's were my best bet for the money. In retrospect, it was a great decision.
These headphones provide a very accurate listening template, which is exactly what is needed when going over a mix or sculpting a sound. I've found that the bass is tight without being too boomy (as is the tendency with many brands of headphones) and the high end sparkles nicely without piercing your eardrums. The frequency range is well represented and has given me opportunity to work accurately at all hours of the night. While no studio headphones can compete with a good set of monitors, it is a great help to be able to go over material quietly and have it come out with some accuracy rather than being too bass heavy or shrill.
This particular set seemed to be the best balance between price and quality of the sets I researched. In addition, the circumaural design is very comfortable. They hug the ears nicely without being too tight and the set rests very comfortably on the head. I've spent back to back hours wearing these and felt no discomfort whatsoever. Overall, a great purchase in terms of both price and quality.
