May 31, 2008 Music Background: recording engineer, artist, composer Great Vocal and Acoustic Guitar Mic
by Matt from Riverdale, UT USA
This is a great mic! I have a factory matched pair (I believe they still do those) and the mic is exceptional on acoustic guitar and many vocals. It's also done great on overheads and stereo cello.July 25, 2007 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Project Studio Owner ... read more [+] /> The thing about is it's just a bit dirty - in the best possible way. Just a little larger than life, and a little shinier. There's a great top end that can be clear and bitey, but not harsh at all. The bottom end is a bit enhanced. It's just a mic that makes you say "Sweet!" I do wish they made it clearer which is front and which is back. Whenever I've had an intern set them up for the first time, they have it so the cool GT cutout is facing the performer. That is, unfortunately, backwards. The holes go in the front. The mic can also get a bit of grit on loud sources (like it's overdriving). I also have an original, larger Model 1 that the Model 1B was patterned after. GT did a great job with the Model 1B. It's a tube microphone that really exemplifies what a tube mic should sound like. Flavored. close [-] Sweetwater Advice
Carson McClainWhen looking for a tube mic several things come in to play such as price, quality, and brand recognition. Groove Tubes MD1B covers all of these bases. If this microphone was twice the price it would still be worth it. I sell a lot of Groove Tubes gear, and this is one of my favorite microphones from them. Groove Tubes MD1b Tube
