GK MB200 This unit is all the good things you’ve heard

By sam jam from CO on May 28, 2020

Plug and play. As advertised. Sounds great run flat. No noise.
Bought it for a back-up. Does the job.

GK MB200 is a champ.

By Sweetwater Customer on March 15, 2020

Sounds excellent run flat. Hooked up to a 500watt 4ohm single 12" speaker cabinet.
Perfect for quiet gigs and as a spare amp.
No hiss (I don't use a tweeter). It is all the good things I have heard.
Not real loud, but with the D.I. it'll run thru the P.A. if need be.
Shout out to Ryan Thorpe at Sweetwater. Even when he's not there
he makes sure you are taken care of.

Outstanding

By James Elwyn from Saint Genevieve, MO on February 24, 2020 Music Background: Retired pro.

As usual, GK has developed an amazing head. Straight out of the box, flat eq,uncolored, clean, punchy headroom.had numerous GKs over the years, last one a 400rb I've put through the mill for 10 years. It has become unreliable. Excellent gear made in the USA...Sweetwater was excellent as usual. Highly recommend!!

Can ask more versatile and small great for home or gig can ask for more

Now My Tone Gets Compliments

By Eric from Canton, GA on May 11, 2019 Music Background: Semi- Pro

I'm blown away by this tiny amp. I bought it as a backup to my TC Electronic RH450. First time I tried it at a gig, two people complimented my tone. I never received tone kudos before. Same thing at several gigs since. I run it flat with contour on. It seems like it was made for my Stingray and L-2000. MB500 will be my next purchase. This should come with a warning. You WILL become addicted to GK.

"Little Brother"?

By Brian Williams from NY on February 16, 2019 Music Background: Bassist/bass synthesis

Bought this to backup the GK MB-500. Not as many bells and whistles but sounds just as great. Seems like more power than stated. I would easily be able to use this on a variety of gigs. No regrets. can cover small gigs/rehersals with just this and a Hartke 112HD.

Powerhouse

By Jack from Champaign on December 2, 2018

I was really surprised the first time I gigged with this little baby. It's so small and light, I was afraid I'd drop it. But plugged into my 2x10 it really filled the room.

MB200 More than a backup.

By Norman Greunke from NE on September 25, 2018 Music Background: Retiree, now with the time to play more gigs with a variety of ensembles.

I got the MB200 a few months ago as a backup to my MB500 and promptly put it through its paces. For the fun of it, my last three I've used this little two-pounder as a main amp and it has amazed me how much it can thump!
And, thanks to TJ Jackson at Sweetwater for his assistance and followup, especially just recently with another purchase!

GK MB200

By Burt from Tallahassee on January 2, 2018 Music Background: Gigging for 40 years

Plenty loud for a rehearsal or small gig. Absolutely quiet. I haven't seen the fan kick in yet,
but the fan is very small. The contour switch is very useful, as are the tone controls.
Extremely small and light weight. Sounds really good with my Fender Jazz through a
small sealed 15" cabinet.

GALLIEN-KRUEGER MB200 MICRO BASS HEAD

By Donald Quaglia from CA on December 12, 2017 Music Background: Part time pro.

This micro bass head is one of lite head, it's becoming my favorite for going to jam with my friends, I have a Mesa Boogie rack mount head weighs 46 Lbs what a relief this Gallien Krueger micro head is. You can a put it in your bass guitar gig bag and go have a good time, without breaking your back. Also a very good price at Sweetwater and fast delivery to.
And Thanks to my sales engineer, Dustin k, for all ways being there to help me

Simply Amazing!

By Bronson Warren from Ada, OK on February 11, 2014 Music Background: Bass Player (45yrs), Retired band director

I have used my MB200 for a month now and am simply amazed. The tone is wondeful just set flat. I can add just a touch of of any control to tweak the sound I am looking for. Just hit the contour switch and you have a great slap sound. It has more power than the 200 watt rating. It fits fine in my bass gig bag. Sweetwater got it to me in three days and their customer service is great as usual. I have purchased at least a dozen items from Sweetwater and have never been disappointed. Thanks to
my rep, Ryan Wiltermood) for great service everytime I make a purchase.
The MB200 is a great addition to my arsenal and I will use it much more than I planned. Simple to use with a great GK sound.

Mighty Might

By Steve Lewis from Boston, MA on October 10, 2013 Music Background: Weekend Warrior for 25+ years.

This little head kicks butt. I couldn't believe how good it sounds! Of course, I would expect nothing less from the leader in bass amplification for decades.

GK's 4-band EQ is and always has been awesome. Sounds outstanding with my 12" cabinet, with plently of power, room-shaking lows and crisp highs to please any discerning ear.

The only disappointment was that the Speakon connector on the back spec was changed so it does not accept 1/4" cables in the center like the original specification states, but all in all very pleased.

G-K MB200

By Tony from Columbia, S.C. on February 11, 2013 Music Background: Pro Musician

Once again G-K hits it out of the park with this little beauty. At only 2 lbs. I wasn't expecting what I was about to experience, even from G-K. I was completely blown away! I have an MB500 and the tone and power from this little amp was so comparable that I dare anyone to take a blindfold test and tell which one you're listening to using the same speaker cabs for both. The only difference is the ability of the MB500 to reach higher volume output levels, however, I can't think of a local gig that I do where the MB200 isn't enough to handle it. this is far and away THE BEST BASS AMP ON THE PLANET FOR THE MONEY!! I recommend it highly, and I have been playing professionally for 50 yrs come this July and have owned several bass rigs. I am also very impressed and satisfied with the professionalism and service I have received from Sweetwater.

Like Whoa!

By Keely from USA on June 2, 2012 Music Background: I used to gig but nowadays I'm happy just jammin' with friends! \m/

This little two-pound wonder is the only amp I've had that didn't need a pedal to make my Alembic sound like it should! I have Peavey combos and GenzBenz heads and numerous speaker cab combinations but I've never been truly satisfied with my sound until this "Made in USA" marvel came along. I'm seriously considering changing my allegiance to G-K!

Good things can come in small packages!

By Marc Smith from Florida on July 19, 2011 Music Background: Pro Musician

I purchased this to use for small gigs and as a backup. I use an Eden WT550 head with 410L and 1212L Schroeder cabinets. This little amp kicks and has a great sound. I set the controls flat adding a little bass with the contour up. It sounds so good I intend to use it most of the time.

GK MB200

By Rich from Reno, NV on October 11, 2018 Music Background: long-time Guiatr player, refreshing my Bass skills

I'm about a week into ownership, so far very pleased. I worked my way up to a dedicated Bass Rig and selected this model because it had minimal features, solid pedigree, and great reviews. It is paired with a closed-back Eminence CA154 cabinet. When directly in line, just the tone I hoped for with my JC Epi Bass with Roto TruBass Black Tape strings...deep and woody, with a punch.

OK I'm sold!!!

By Verbass from Southern New England on September 28, 2017 Music Background: Active Local Semi Pro

Been on a bend recently where my amps all died including My prized Pre Fender SWR 350X and My 28 Year old GK 400RB. After a brief Love affair with my Eden Terra Nova, I returned to GK and ..... Forget about it! Took it out of the box and in five minutes had my Fender Pbass Deluxe rocking with a sweet tone. Turned up the Juice and it got louder with no alteration to the tone. Really excited to put it through its paces with the bands I'm playing with now.
Totally blown away by the sound coming out of this little light weight unit. The only reason for not 5 stars is I just got it and need to see how durable it is. If my last two GK products are any indication I'll be amending this review in a year.

GK MB200

By Big V from CA on August 19, 2015 Music Background: 50 years on Bass

I have had a GK RB400 for nearly 30 years. This mini sized GK is a great additon. It has a wide spectrum of sound textures in a very small package. It is perfect for jam sessions and gigs. The power rivals my old GK. It fits in my Bass Guitar bag and weights so little I hardly notice it. It seems like I have eliminated a significant item I have to carry around. The sound is excellent but my old GK provides a little more warm lows due to the contour control. I purchased a Neutrik to 1/4 inch adapter for the speaker out put for my older speaker cabinet (only a few d $). Another winner for GK.

great bass sound for quiet stage

By Sweetwater Customer on September 2, 2011

I love it, works great and sounds great.
Thank you all at Sweet Water.

Its small and loud, yes.

By Nathan Lambertson from LA on April 18, 2018

Gets the job done if you want to play gigs and not have to carry a big amp. Sounds digital and boring to me. Not very musical or dynamic. Definitely fat and loud like a GK. I use a preamp to sweeten it up. Works for my little money gigs like private parties and restaurants. If you want great tone, get a 100w SVT

Very useful amp

By ridingroy from By the ocean in New Jersey on February 26, 2013 Music Background: Professional

After lugging 20 and 30 lb. amps for decades I'm glad I've lived long enough to see a 200 watt bass amp that weighs 2 lbs. and fits into a laptop bag with room to spare! The portability is a BIG plus. The tone is very natural and transparent at moderate EQ settings. The contour switch scoops mids and automatically gives you a very nice Musicman style fat slap tone. It has no built in compressor which I miss but in a package this compact you can't have everything. There is only one speakon speaker output jack and GK should go back to using the 1/4"/speakon combo jack but that's no big deal. Overall sound and build quality is very good. If you play a lot of small to medium rooms as I do I would recommend giving the MB200 a try.

Great sound and portable

By Zsolt Sapi from Dutch Harbor, Alaska on May 11, 2011 Music Background: bass player

My main goal was to find a head small enough, what i can take to practice, without using our guitarplayer's equipment all the time.
The first one, gave up on me after one week. Basically, would not turn on anymore. When i got my replacement amp started using right away. It's been months and going smooth.
I love the portability and the sound too. I'm only a half way up on Gain and gives me plenty power.
Contour is on, sounds tiny without it. Same with dB switch, just leave it on. I really like the punch with my Precision Hot Rod when it comes through a Carwin 210 cabinet. I did smaller gig with the MB200. Did good. No dissapiontments. All other knobs (treble, hi-mid, low-mid, bass) kept in the middle. Overall, great little amp for the right price.
