ART PRO VLA (No Longer Available)Item ID: LevelarProTwo-Channel Tube and Vactrol (Opto-Isolator) Based Compressor and Leveling Amplifier Sorry, the ART PRO VLA is no longer available. We are working with our friends at From Our Research Team:Totally Pro Leveling! The ART PRO VLA (Vactrol® based Leveling Amplifier) is a multi-purpose tool for audio engineering and recording. Enclosed in a 2U(3.5" high) rack-mountable chassis are two independent channels of analog leveling/compression designed to work seamlessly with any recording, sound-reinforcement, or electronic instrument setup. ART’s PRO VLA circuitry is a hybrid design utilizing the latest and most advanced analog and tube technology. Using a transformerless design throughout, the PRO VLA maintains exceptional signal integrity and extremely low noise. Its VCA-less design utilizes optical electronics (Vactrol) coupled with a 12AX7 vacuum tube gain stage for superior musical performance. The ART PRO VLA is a soft knee leveling amplifier by design. Although it is capable of providing a thoroughly "squashed" signal, the PRO VLA was designed to excel in areas where transparent, expressively musical dynamics control is desired. In addition to making signal levels more manageable, it is common practice to apply compression or limiting to a signal to make it louder or more "in-your-face". The benefit of using the PRO VLA for these applications is in its design. By utilizing opto-electronics, ART's PRO VLA allows you to add more compression without sounding like you’re squashing the daylights out of the signal. Unlike typical compressors which use VCA’s to control level detection, the ART PRO VLA is very musical. The nature of its operation is much like the way your eye adjusts to light. Just as your eye transparently adjusts to changes in light, the ART PRO VLA adjusts to changes in signal level. Developed in partnership with studio and live sound engineers, the PRO VLA possesses a "sound" that is not available from any other compressor on the market - at any price! The PRO VLA was designed and constructed with the absolute best components, assuring a lifetime of quiet, reliable performance. ART PRO VLA Features:

I read a review and figured for $200.00 what did I have to lose? The answer-NOTHING! This is a deal for a tube comp/limiter. I used it on bass, and wow, it pushed it out in your face. I haven't tried ... read more [+]it on vox yet, but I will very soon. February 3, 2008 Music Background: Guitar player, live sound, studio owner This is money well spent. I put it up against my 266's, and this thing just shines. Nothing wrong with the 266, but the tube warmth, limiting, the nice big VU meters and overall sound put this comp in a class all it's own. I am going to invest in a few more as the budget allows. This is a must have for your studio. Highly recommended. close [-] Pro VLA

Nice piece of equipment. I had one rushed to me and pulled it out as I was setting up the sound system for a rock band at a local club. I used the PRO VLA for vocals. Hooking it up was simple, I jus... read more [+]t used the insert loop from the vocal channels on the soundboard (mackie cfx-20). We didn't do a soundcheck so the first test of the PRO VLA was during the first song of the show while everything was being quickly dialed in. The PRO VLA was simple to use and any setting sound good, however, with a little bit of tweeking, the vocals sounded great. The PRO VLA took the harsh edge off of the vocals and also made it much easier to get the vocals to stand out over the rest of the band. May 15, 2006 Music Background: The next morning I used it for a festival with mostly acoustic bands. Once again the vocals sounded great. I recorded some of those acoustic bands off of the soundboard and I cannot stop listening to them because the vocals sounded so much better than with my old compressor. Very smooth. My old compressor is now being used for drums. close [-] ART Pro VLA

I've used the Pro VLA in my home studio for the last several years and I really like the sound quality. This box is easy to use and easy to make sound good on just about any program material. When compressing I usually use the auto settings but when limiting I set it on fast. close [-]
