Customer Reviewsfrom South central Iowa July 14, 2011Music Background: Solo to five member garage band. Ovation Legend AXExcellent overall quality. This is one company that has remained consistent in their build quality and like the old VW's just added a few well thought out features each year to make a better product. I do wish it came in a medium depth body and that more than two colors were offered but basic black is ok I guess. After I removed both bridge shims and put on some silk and steel light Martin Marquis strings it was perfect for these old hands. No fret buzz with low and light strings-nice. The built in tuner is a little touchy as usual but once you get used to it it does the job. It's very easy to add strap-locks and a sound hole plug to eliminate any feedback at high volume. I also stuck on one of those John Pearse ebony arm rests. However the case is such a tight fit that now the lid won't close all the way-oh well. I played three hours at the Farmer Market with this guitar last Saturday AM and I was very pleased with the sound through my powered PA speakers. I like to run it through a Keeley compressor to give it more gain and sustain and usually add a touch of chorus for interest also. IMO the Ovations are not made for the purists to play un-amplified. They are rock solid instruments that are super stable and stay in tune in all weather. They can take heavy use and don't need constant changes of the truss rod every time the weather changes or you play outdoors.
