Beautiful appointments This guitar certainly lives up to its limited-edition status! Mother of pearl inlays adorn the 2009 Limited Edition's pickguard, while an abalone rosette rings the soundhole. The ebony fingerboard is inlaid with deluxe shell material, while ivory cab binding helps to make the neck even more eye-catching. Good wood It doesn't matter how extravagant a guitar's appointments might be - if the wood isn't up to par, you won't sound good. Fortunately, Takamine uses premium tonewoods on the 2009 Limited Edition. Its solid spruce top, solid mahogany back, mahogany neck, and rosewood bridge are top-notch. Add the aforementioned ebony fingerboard, and you've got a real winner! NEX body shape, great plugged-in sound Takamine uses their NEX small jumbo body shape on the 2009 Limited Edition, giving it the easy playability of a smaller guitar, while making it deep enough to produce big acoustic tone. And when you want to plug in, this guitar's ready to bring that sound to the stage - an onboard active pickup system (complete with a CTP-2 Cool Tube preamp) gives your amplified sound a very natural vibe in any venue! ReviewsA Sweet Ride
by Doug Kennedy from Ashland, Oregon
I've owned many Takamines since 1978 when I bought my first. April 28, 2009 Music Background: Professional, writer, performer and recording I ran into it at a music store in Burbank while on break from a recording session. It was the original EF360. After hearing... read more [+] it plugged in, I went back to the studio and continued to record with my Martins, Guilds, and Gibsons. However I never played those guitars live on stage again. The Tak produced the best acoustic sound for medium to large venues I'd ever heard. I bought a dozen that day. Since then I've yet to find anything that beats a Tak for live work. I still have many far more expensive instruments for recording as the Tak strength has traditionally been as a plugged in performance instrument. Through the years though their pure acoustic sound has continually improved. I have several newer Taks some even more expensive than the LTD 2009 about which I write here but this instrument has an acoustic sound that rivals many of the boutique guitars I have or have played ranging $5K and multiples of that upwards. Bell like tones on the highs and a really seductive and consistent bottom end all the way up the neck. The neck was perfect directly from Sweetwater. First guitar I ever bought that needed no set up of any kind, not even a truss rod tweak. Letting it recover from jet lag (and cold cargo compartments) took less than a day for the perfection express itself. They really hit a home run with this model, though I did change out the preamp to my favorite CT4Bll ( I have quite a few preamps from Takamine) as I find it much more an acoustic booster than the onboard Cool Tube 2 (or CTP-1 first gen cool Tube). The CT4Bll is also much faster to dial in a perfect sound. The news of course is this guitar is as good as I've heard when recording with a good studio mic. And I've heard and played some pretty amazing guitars. Yes it has a 1 11/16 neck at nut but plays wider and feels almost identical to my LTD 2005 which has a 1 3/4" neck. It feels wider than my LTD 98 which has the same 1 11/16 spec. In all, this instrument is superb and even with the somewhat glittery appearance, it lives up to its looks - and sails far beyond. A beautiful presentation that is butter easy on the ears and surprisingly easier (and classier) on the eyes in person than any photos I've seen. Thanks to both Takamine for really laying one in my wheelhouse and to Sweetwater for always shipping instruments in absolutely prime condition.
