From Our Research Team:Play a Modern Classic!Gibson's Les Paul '60s Tribute solidbody electric guitar pays homage to that tumultuous decade while giving you incredible playability and comfort, along with the fat, snarling tone that put the 'Paul on the map with guitar legends like Eric Clapton. The 1960s were a formative time for music, and the LP was at the epicenter. The 2013 Les Paul '60s Tribute gives you Gibson's classic tonewood combo - with weight relief, so you can rock all night, while a pair of BurstBuckers serve up mountains of tone and sustain. Play a classic: the Gibson Les Paul '60s Tribute.Gibson Les Paul '60s Tribute Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
The Les Paul recipe for sustain - mahogany body with maple top Gibson's Les Paul '60s Tribute gives you the robust sustain you need for hot liquid solos and massive power chords. What's Gibson's secret? A major part of the Les Paul's tonewood recipe is the fusion of a maple top on a mahogany body. This combination is largely responsible for the legendary Les Paul sound - as well the LP's reputation for being rather heavy. But fear not! Gibson's traditional weight relief has been scientifically applied to this 'Paul - giving you all the sustain, without the pain. Now you can play marathon gigs without next-day visits to the chiropractor. The Gibson Les Paul '60s Tribute - it's what rock dreams are made of. BurstBuckers give you monumental tone and sustain In 1958 the Les Paul got an "upgrade" to two humbucking pickups, which were designed by Gibson's Seth Lover and are widely called "PAFs" because early examples had "Patent Applied For" stickers on the underside. It wasn't until Eric Clapton plugged a Les Paul into a Marshall amp that the light went on in many players heads: humbuckers equal big, fat tone! The Gibson Les Paul '60s Tribute is equipped with two of the best humbucking pickups Gibson has ever produced: BurstBuckers. With a tight low-end, complex midrange and sweet treble, the sound is everything you'd ever want from a Les Paul. Slim Taper neck for uber-playability The Gibson Les Paul '60s Tribute sports a comfortable, fast-action neck with a '60s Slim Taper profile. Early Les Paul guitars had huge "tree-trunk" necks, but beginning in 1959, the company began slimming the neck down to a more comfortable size. By 1960, this evolved into a design Gibson called the Slim Taper neck. Varying in thickness only about a tenth of an inch from the first fret out to the twelfth and maintaining a precisely controlled width-to-thickness ratio, the Slim Taper neck promoted playing speed while reducing player fatigue. Many guitarists consider Gibson's Slim profile neck the most playable Les Paul neck ever made. Whether you're chording down low or riffing up high, the Les Paul '60s Tribute's neck - with its rosewood fingerboard and classic trapezoid inlays - always feels just right! January 24, 2013 Music Background: guitarist, classic rock, texas blues, hard rock, power metal, outlaw country Harmonics Jump Out of this Tone Machine!
by Frank Motsay from Grand Rapids, MI Area
First the not so great:March 2, 2013 Music Background: Basher for 20 years The finish on this guitar is called vintage gloss, but don't be expecting much gloss at all. It is a satin finish, pure and simple. The wine red looks fantastic, but... read more [+] if you are after a wood-filled, smooth nitrocellulose high gloss finish, you'd be prepared to spend more money. It also doesn't have any special electronics (like coil-tapping), but I own or have owned other LP's with these features and seldom used them. If I want single coil tone I reach for my Tele or Strat, don't you? Now the great features of this guitar: This is a straight ahead, rock & blues machine. Nothing fancy, you can just conjure up great classic, humbucker-laden colors that sound like something from days gone by. Think of records made in the seventies with Les Pauls from a decade earlier. Think Mick Taylor, Steve Marriott, Dickie Betts, Mick Raphs...the list goes on and on. If you're after tone, this is a classic beast. After a little fine-tuning of the pickups heights, I got harmonics leaping out of this guitar. I have a Les Paul Standard that had a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge, but the Burstbucker 2 in this guitar seems to drive my amps harder with more grit than the BB3. If you're after classic rock, the pairing of the BB1 & BB2 is phenomenal in this model. They put it in a lot of Custom Shop Reissues for many $$$ more. It's well known that ALL of the parts of the guitar blended together give it the tone you hear, but this one sounds particularly great. I don't know if it's the thin finish that lets it resonate better, the density of the mahogany or what makes it work - it just does. Normally, I plan to have my favorite guitar tech set up every new guitar that I buy, but this one was fine. I don't know if it was Sweetwater's 55-point inspection or what, but the intonation was spot on and the action was good for me (medium low). It's nice to not have to bring it to a tech or do it yourself right after a purchase like this. In the end, tone is what really matters. This is a GIBSON Les Paul. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 rating is because I think that many people will expect a bit more nitro in the finish and I think that Gibson's use of the term "vintage gloss" is a bit misleading. Personally, I am fine with the finish, but others may not be. Finally, I'm not a shill for Sweetwater, but I like what they provide the customer. They may not always be the least expensive on the net, but they are competitive & they know musical instruments. My Sales Engineer is Ryan Wiltermood and he has always treated me right. I recommend him. close [-] Also popular
