Ever since its introduction in 1952, the Les Paul has had an impact on both guitar players and on music itself. What started out as Gibson's answer to the introduction of solidbody guitars in 1950, turned out to be perhaps the most influential of them all. What was first a simple gold-top guitar has turned into a veritable rainbow of colors, in configurations to meet everyone's needs, wants and yes, even budget. You have a carved maple top over a chambered mahogany body, a '50s-profile mahogany neck with a baked maple fingerboard and two screaming Burstbucker Pro humbucking pickups. The Les Paul Studio Satin is a performing guitarist's dream come true.Gibson Les Paul Studio Satin Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
Carved maple top in Satin Yellow finish over a mahogany body The Gibson Les Paul has seen an array of finishes and tops over the years while maintaining the classic look and sound. This Les Paul Studio Satin features a new Satin Yellow finish on the carved maple top, and a chambered mahogany body for lower weight - the timeless recipe for smoky tones, incredible sustain, and excellent note definition. '50s-profile mahogany neck with baked maple fingerboard The first Les Pauls had huge necks. This Gibson Les Paul Studio Satin has the '50s neck profile, which strikes a great balance between the classic feel of a larger neck with the faster playability of a rounded profile. And Gibson claims that baking the maple for the fingerboard not only gives it a matured look similar to rosewood, it makes it harder and more resistant to moisture. Two Burstbucker Pro Humbucking Pickups When you're talking about a Les Paul, you're talking about that big, fat, smoky humbucker sound. This Gibson Les Paul Studio Satin sports dual Burstbucker Pro humbucking pickups for the classic tone you crave. Plug into your favorite tube amp, peg the Les Paul's volume controls, and hold on! I’ve searched everywhere and haven’t found a review for the yellow satin Gibson Les Paul, so I thought I’d be the first since I now own one. May 17, 2012 Music Background: Music student for over 40 years I spent a whole weekend going from music store to ... read more [+]music store looking for a new guitar after intensive on-line research. My first choice was a PRS Carlos Santana but after playing one I decided it just wasn’t for me. The sound was a bit too smooth for my taste. But, hey, if it’s a Carlos it’s should be smooth. I guess researching guitars on-line is fine in theory, but just like buying a bicycle, you have to try it before making a decision. So my search began in earnest. I plugged in guitar after guitar looking for the sound and feel just right for me. Finally I said to the salesman, “Do you have any Les Pauls that won’t break the bank”? He walked away and returned with this a beautiful satin yellow Les Paul Studio. I wondered to myself, “Why is he bringing that. It’s way over my budget”. I reasoned with myself, “Yea, buy that it’ll give the hubby another heart attack!”. I promptly plugged it in and strummed a few chords. Immediately I heard that deep satisfying crunchy Les Paul sound. Believe me, there’s no mistaking it. I could even feel it resonate deep in my bones. Despite trying to look reserved and demure, I couldn’t help but break out in a big smile. A customer walking by said “I saw that. That’s the guitar for you”! Which remarkably, was exactly what I happened to be thinking at that very moment. I was sure the Les Paul was out of my league so I proceeded to ask the salesman the price as I sighed ready to hand the guitar back in defeat. “$799” said he to my complete surprise. Needless to say I quickly left the store with guitar in hand before he could change his mind. That was a month ago. After many hours of play, I still can’t help but smile every time I play this guitar. The specs on the yellow satin Les Paul are the same as the specs on the studio faded models. What distinguishes this guitar from the rest of the pack is the satin yellow finish. I really like this color especially with the black pick guard and accents. This guitar reminds me of the yellow Les Paul Junior that Billy Joe Armstrong plays. I’m not completely sure but I do believe it’s the same exact color. I was concerned that the painted finish might produce a different sound than the stained models but I tried them too and could not distinguish a difference. I also determined that the neck is smoother on the painted guitar then on the stained wood models I played. But, that’s just my personal opinion. See what you think. close [-]
