Stunning Figured Maple Top
Thanks to its figured maple top, the Les Paul Standard 08 Plus is nothing short of eye-catching. Plus, it's available with a variety of different finishes so you can find the Gibson beauty that matches your style.

Even More Comfortable Neck Shape
Gibson has offered a variety of different neck shapes on its Les Paul Standards, but with the Les Paul Standard Plus they reach an entirely new level. Its new asymmetrical neck shape was designed expressly for a hand to just "fit" around it, allowing for an even more comfortable, more natural playing experience.

BurstBuckers for That Classic LP Sound
It wouldn't be a Les Paul without that big, fat, smoky humbucker sound! While the Les Paul Standard sees improvements in its appearance, its feel, and its details, the Les Paul Standard Plus retains that epic BurstBucker tone. This baby's equipped with two huge-sounding BurstBucker Pro pickups, complete with hot Alnico V magnets wound to Vintage specs.

The Latest in Potentiometer Design
The Les Paul Standard Plus features all-new Pots, custom-made by Bourns. These gold-plated potentiometers were designed from the ground up for precision and highly reliable performance.

State-of-the-art Plek treatment
All Les Paul Standard Plus guitars receive state-of-the-art treatment using Gibson's new Plek machines. First Les Paul - Amazing Guitar!

by Steve from
October 14, 2011
Music Background:
I have played Fender/Ibanez guitars for over 15 years and never really clicked with any Les Paul I had tried (yes call me a Fender-Guy). I felt the Les Pauls were heavy, clunky and not very comfortabl... read more [+]e. These new 08 Standards however are AMAZING and totally changed my opinion on them (+ the stupid wood raid by the feds made me want to support Gibson), so I HAD to have one!

First off - the Desert-Burst look is probably the best looking finish out there on a Les Paul. The level of detail is amazing and it practically looks like a piece of art! I like how the pickguard does not come pre-installed so you can see the maple flame top in all it's glory.

Also these new standards don't kill the back, yet sustain practically forever. The BurstBucker Pro, while on the darker side compared to some of the other humbuckers I've played, really give that classic Les Paul sound and sound fantastic over a tube amp with the gain cranked up. The Asymmetrical neck is also very comfortable to play on.

I know in online discussions people tend to be negative about the '08 Standard' Les Pauls vs the Traditionals, but I highly suggest you go try one out - it is an AMAZING guitar well worth the money! close [-]

I want to put the bottom line up front - this is a great guitar and everything that I hoped it would be. I will not get in the middle of the solid body / standard verus chambered body debate but let m... read more [+]e say I own both and the only difference to me is weight. Great guitar with Great Service

Words cannot describe.

by Zguy from Fort Wayne, Indiana USA

Music Background: Approx. 10 yrs, guitarist for life.
Simply put words cannot describe this guitar. I won't say what I played previously because I don't want seem biased. To the Les Paul purists who say nay to the chambered bodies I couldn't disagree m... read more [+]ore, pick a note, put the guitar down, go rotate your tires, come back, and the note is still ringing. The tone is absolutely amazing, think of angels singing in unison at sunrise. With all that and the weight reduction you can't go wrong but thats not all of it. Absolutely perfect frets with the Plek setup, no buzz whatsoever from the lowest to the highest. The finish is flawless. Couple all that with Sweetwater's set-up and service and you can't go wrong.

I am local and initially tried this new model at a different store only to see it on racks in plain open air 15 feet from the door for anyone of any level to play (or abuse depending on who has it in their hands). I can't believe I even entertained the idea of anywhere else other than Sweetwater, the guitar had to be unpacked from Gibson's original packing. Any guitar outside of that thats being tested or put through its 55 point inspection is in the show/test room which is climate controlled (theres even 2 separate rooms for electrics and acoustics!)

I picked up my Desert Burst and met my sales engineer in person and got the full tour. Everything they do is cutting edge down to their heating/cooling for energy savings/green outlook. Theres and honest passion in what they do there and it shows in their service and care in matching you with the right gear. In fact my sales engineer was reluctant to sell me the guitar initially because of me trying one without looking at other guitars. I tried a few others based on some questions, sound, my own natural style, and feel but came back to the 08 LP Std. Give them a call, you won't be disappointed.

Its an absolutely amazing guitar thats gives me chills just thinking of playing it. close [-]

Sweetwater Advice

Brian Cravens
This guitar has all the extras already installed - Grover locking tuners, a Tone Pro bridge and tailpiece (that don't fall off during re-stringing), a Neutrik locking output jack, a setup with Plek Pro, and burstbuckers. It is the perfect gigging Les Paul. I put one through its paces, and I believe it's time to add another guitar to my collection. I like the neck (not too thick, not too thin), and the fretwork with the Plek treatment was a refreshing dash of perfection. A Les Paul Standard with a beautiful figured maple top. The legend is reborn.
