From Our Research Team:

Feels Like a Vintage Les Paul Without the Vintage Price!

The Gibson Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute pays homage to the pre-1957 Les Paul. Prior to the birth of the humbucking pickup in the mid '50s, the Les Paul came equipped with P-90s (as does the Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute). The P-90 is known for a well-balanced sound, a strong midrange, and the ability to bounce between clean and mean with varied picking intensity. To further the '60s-style vibe, the Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute is available in a quintet of vintage-appropriate worn finishes.

Keeping with the feel of the Les Paul Studio, Gibson opted to omit frivolities such as a bound neck and body. The Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute really is more than the sum of its parts: old-school pickups, premium electrical components, minimalist finishing touches, and worn-in feel all merge to make the Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute a great guitar any Les Paul enthusiast would love. Gibson is only making a limited number of each finish, so call your Sales Engineer today to secure your very own Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute.

I bought this for the p-90 sound. I used to have a gold les paul deluxe w/ p-90's, I missed those tones .. not anymore!! This guitar kicks ass, and for the money, it is a reasonable price, after all,... read more [+] a guitar is wood and strings, you'd think you'd get dinner and month of blowjobs for the prices of some guitars.... close [-]

Let it be known, I am not a Les Paul worshiper. As a matter of fact, I generally find them to be far too dark and mushy to be versatile, and I do not care for that dark tone. This guitar made me a bel... read more [+]iever. The combination of the mahogany chambered body, maple top, and p-90's is insane, and gives you a totally different sound from that dark, LP humbucker tone that is more common. It has snap and spring like a strat, lots of bottom end without getting too dark, and growls when pushed in the best possible way. I have never had as much fun playing any guitar before, ever. This thing simply screams. You can make it sound like anything, and if you are looking for a great old school blues or hendrix tone (yes, neck pickup, overdrive, Hendrix heaven), then this guitar was made for you.

I own this in a gold top, and it is stunning. The mahogany is a light honey color, and the maple top is left unstained on the side, to provide a binding effect. The gold top is SWEET. Good luck finding one for yourself! The worn finish is amazing. It is not as dull as the faded finish, and has a wonderful smooth and fast feel to it. I truly prefer this to the high polish finish on the more expensive Les Paul's. The neck on this is much faster, and overall the finish is just very appealing. The gold top has what I would describe as a satin finish, with an aged patina to it, and it looks amazing. I played the black one also at Sweetwater, and it is also very cool. Each finish has its own vibe, and it is work looking at them in person if possible to see which one does it for you.

As stated above, the p-90's are just frickin awesome. Great single coil tone with bite. The tone of this guitar is very special. There is a depth and snarl to it that the sg's, for example, do not have. I assume this is due to the chambers and maple top. While the sg's sound very good, they have a cleaner tone. This guitar bites when you dig in, and it is enough to give you goosebumps. Played through a good tube amp, this guitar is super touch sensitive, and will give you all kinds of old school tone. The neck pickup is warm and sweet. The bridge pickup is bright and has lots of bite, without becoming brittle. Plus, those big slabs of plastic look great.

The guitar is light due to the chambers, and has a fantastic action. Mine has not been set up yet officially, as I took it home right out of the box. It still has one of the best, if not the best, actions I have ever played. The neck is super comfortable and fast, bends are easy, and the the frets are pleked, so there is little buzzing. Once I have it fully set up by a pro I doubt that I will want to play anything else.

A word on the wood. I tested several sg's and at least two les pauls. Each had its own sound. The mahogany is unique from instrument to instrument, and I would urge you to try more than one out if possible to see which one suits you. I predict that these are going to become seriously sought after guitars. The combination of looks, sound, and playability is just not something that you find very often these days. This is a home run for Gibson. close [-]

The Gibson Les Paul '60s Studio Tribute Rocks!

I just picked up one of these. I own a Limited Edition Les Paul Tribute that I can't put down because it sounds so good, but I don't want to wear it out because I'm collecting it. So when I saw thi... read more [+]s guitar I jumped on it hoping it would sound as nice. I was BLOWN AWAY with the tone and the playability. Now I can't put this one down, which was what I had hoped for. It has TONE, and lots of it, and the depth of this tone provides a nice wide open chunk with clear highs and a fat bottom. Subtle harmonics ring through whether playing clean through a Fender amp or cranked in a fully shredding Marshall stack. Gibson P90's may not be as quiet as some after market pickups that are available, but none of them even come close to the tone you get from the Gibson product. I rate them a 10. The Plek system trimmed the frets on mine so well so that I was able to set it up with my high E string very very close with no fretting out or loss of sustain and it's lightening fast and a joy to play. It's a chambered body so it doesn't weigh a ton and the aged finish looks cool. It's got a real, full thickness, maple top on a mahogany body too! It's a must have guitar, and it's a limited run so when they are gone they are gone. This is one guitar you will never regret buying. close [-]

Give credit where its due..

...and credit is due to Gibson with this latest American incarnation of the Les Paul, and thats why im writing this review. For the dollar, this is the best value yet in an American Les Paul. The wood... read more [+] is "medium" grade, ligheter, lower mineral mahogany than the standard and "proffesional" finish studio models, but of high quality. The finishes are basic but well executed and of high quality Nitrocellulose laquer. Hardware, pots and Pickups are eqaul to those found on Standard grade Gibson instruments. Im glad That Gibson seems to be listening to the buying public and are offering this product in response. This guitar is the Gibson Equivalent to the Fender Highway one series guitars. Would it take Gibson broke to have just completed the package by offering Body and Neck binding and a mini humbucker option? I build and repair guitars and I can answer that question.No.It wouldnt. In their large scale factory production economy, it would add about .50 cents in material cost, and 15 minutes in labor cost per instrument,to do so.The increased sales would offset it 10 fold. And It would'nt harm their flagship Standard models, because they are in a different market. But they are on the right track. American Guitars for American guitarists, and the world.I HIGHLY recommend this guitar over ANY Chinese made LP imitation.BTW the "worn white" is real pretty Les Paul isnt it? close [-]
