Classic Les Paul Vibe with a Slimmer Body
The Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker solidbody electric guitar sports a slim mahogany body that's lightweight and comfortable to play. Originally introduced as a student model (much like the Les Paul Junior), the Melody Maker became a player's favorite for its light weight, comfortable neck, and great tone. You've got two P-90 single-coil pickups which many players consider more versatile than humbuckers. And you'll have a solid foundation for both rhythm and lead playing, thanks to the '50s rounded neck profile. For the tone and feel of a late '50s Gibson, anyone at Sweetwater would recommend the Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker.

The Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker is fitted with two P-90 pickups. Gibson's first successful single-coil pickup, the P-90 can be heard on countless classic recordings. With its biting treble and high output, the P-90 cleans up nicely when you roll back your guitar's volume pot. And when you hit your amp hard, the P-90 really wails. It's an amazingly versatile pickup (more so, arguably, than most humbuckers).
The classic feel of the '50s rounded neck profileThe first Les Pauls had huge necks, but by 1960 the neck underwent several modifications until it became what's known as the slim-taper design, which clearly is for wimps, right? If you're going to play a Les Paul, you want something you can actually grab onto. The neck carve on the Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker isn't quite as chunky as some of the originals, but it's fatter - and considerably more satisfying - than the '60s slim-taper design. But it still has that warm, classic Les Paul feel, allowing easy access to the upper frets so you can really dig into your solos!
Great looking nitro finishThe Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose laquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the '60s and '70s - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities.
