By the mid '50s, when the Gibson Les Paul Special was first released, the solidbody electric guitar was already the king of modern music. First released as a mid-priced model, the Les Paul Special was quickly adopted by a new wave of guitarists who were looking for a stripped down, streamlined guitar with a more aggressive sound. This Les Paul Special features the traditional single-cutaway body, plus a super-comfortable '60s SlimTaper neck that's comfortable on your hand. What's more, a pair of humbucking pickups give this Les Paul Special traditional Les Paul tone.

Lightweight mahogany body packs heavyweight tone
Originally built as a lighter version of the Les Paul that's easier on your back, the Gibson Les Paul Special packs plenty of tone. Its solid-mahogany is finished with real nitrocellulose, so you know your Les Paul Special will only sound better with age.

High-output humbuckers deliver solid Les Paul sound
To capture the classic Les Paul sound, Gibson decided to give the Les Paul Special a pair of classic-style humbuckers, including a 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge. These pickups capture the sound of traditional 1950s PAFs tweaked to bring out more midrange snarl. Together with the Les Paul Special's mahogany body, this pair of humbuckers gives you a tone that was born to rock.

Comfortable SlimTaper neck profile
Unlike the first Les Paul Specials, which had significantly chunkier necks, this Les Paul Special gives you the fast and comfortable feel of Gibson's SlimTaper neck profile. Made from absolutely solid mahogany, this '60s-style neck carve is one of the most popular profiles out there. What's more, Gibson gave the Les Paul Special a sleek Obeche fingerboard, a great-looking sustainable wood!
