Carved maple top and mahogany body The Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus features a traditional, non-chambered mahogany body known for killer tone and sustain. In 1958, the Les Paul went from a simple gold-finished, painted top to a cherry sunburst finish over a carved maple two-piece top. The carved top was one fo the features that set the Les Paul apart from the "competition." The Les Paul Classic Plus features a gorgeous AA figured Western maple cap that will be the envy of your friends. Baked maple fingerboard The Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus sports a baked maple fingerboard. Baking the wood in a special oven makes the wood water resistant, hard and stable (perfect for fingerboards), with snap and attack similar to ebony - but with a more traditional appearance. As no chemicals are used, the process also earth-friendly. Always an innovator, Gibson - in the face of tightening world supplies of certain woods - again shows its leadership in materials engineering in the quest for new and improved tonewoods for its guitars. Two fat, smoking humbuckers When you really want to cook on a solo or deliver some thunderous power chords, you reach for a guitar that's got a pair of humbuckers, right? Forget all those thin "out-of-phase" guitar sounds that the session players overused in the 1980s and (sad to say) right through much of the '90s. That's not for you. Your sound is all about the warmth, punch and midrange complexity you can only get from a pair of Gibson humbuckers. The Les Paul Classic Plus comes with a pair of chrome covered 'buckers: a 496R in the neck position and a 500T in the bridge position for uncompromising power, whether you're playing rhythm or digging into a solo. ReviewsLes Paul Classic Plus
by John Perovich from Tinley Park, IL USA
A number of years ago coca cola changed its time honored recipe resulting so much backlash that they reintroduced the old coke recipe as coke classic. That sums up how I feel about this guitar. This g... read more [+]uitar feels and plays like my old 1980 Les Paul Standard. That's why I bought it. As for the baked maple neck... if Gibson offered it as an upgrade people would pay extra for it. It is smoother than rosewood and has the bite of ebony. I brought this guitar to my buddy's pro guitar shop. We had three longtime Les Paul devotees play it and none them could tell what was different about it until we told them it was a baked maple neck. If you don't like the sound of the pickups, change them. You'll still be $600.00 ahead from shelling out $2600.00 for a standard with a premium maple top. Play it for yourself and see. I love mine. As soon as the sales Rep at sweetwater put it in my hands I knew I was in trouble. I couldn't leave the store without it. close [-]
