This program is simply the best. I started out using Proteus X when I bought my E-Mu X-Board, then I moved up to Colossus from East West. This program has many functions that create awesome instrume... read more [+]nt articulation. The biggest problem I had with VST's is trying to make the guitars sound real. With this program you can make the guitar do up and down strokes to create the flow of a real guitar. They have also included knocks and fret noise to give it an almost indistinguishable guitar sound. The synth's are fun and you can change many parameters to manipulate it to your desired sound. Add to that the included 32 gigabyte library of realistic sounds that my synth was trying to emululate, and I was sold! The included orchestral sounds are very good, and the piano is marvelous! One thing I appreciate is being able to modify (or even create) new sounds fairly easily! I changed a few things on the classic grand piano, and that is now my mainstay. With this software, you have complete control of the environment you choose to work in, and when you bring it up, it is just as you left it! Sweet! Best of all, the support team behind this software know how to use it, and will help you learn how as your needs dictate! Got old samples sitting around? Load-em up, tweak-em! Layer-em! The best feature for me, is that it loads almost any kind of format and thus Kontakt 3 is the all-in-one solution to all your music needs.ONE IMPORTANT THING: If you buy this and it seems that your CPU gets pushed to the max and overloads with just 2 or 3 instruments and you get sound crackles and drop-outs, then here is the answer.Considering that you have a fairly good computer with 2 or more Gigs of RAM and good size hard drive as well as a good sound card, with support drivers, you will want to take note of the following:All NI Kontakt 3 instruments has automatic build in convolution reverb, which takes up a lot of processing power. Kontakt 2 instruments did not have this feature automatically assigned. If need be, you have to disable this feature and your playback problems will be solved. No more CPU overloads or crackles and drop-outs. You can assign reverb in many other ways. The inclusion of World Instruments like the Duduk, Celtic Flute and Bag Pipes is more than I could ask for. So is the Vienna Symphonic Library which contains world class symphonic instruments. Each instrument is superbly created, sampled and sounds so realistic. It is now up to you and your imagination. If you are new to sampling, then there is still a steep learning curve if you really want to get down into all the technical side of scripting, editing, looping and sound mapping.So buy this, install all the updates for it, and you will be one happy camper. A definite must for all musicians, samplers and digital musicians. Considering what you get in this product, the price is really not that bad. close [-]

Carson McClainKontakt 3 imports sample formats I have never even heard of. If you're looking for high performance and a sampler that acts like its own unique instrument, pick up Kontakt. It will quickly become your go-to sampler. Sample LIbrary could be better

I thought with the update of Kontakt 3 They might have changed this. Not so much.July 19, 2009 Music Background: hobbiest While the symphonic instruments are pretty cool i found that the 3rd party miroslav orchestral set to be a bit better. The sounds here overall just feel a bit "flat' even with effects added. For example while this library is expanded to include many world instruments the Celtic Instruments which i am a big fan of presented here like the bagpipe and uleanne pipe both to me sound no better then a soundfont or just seems really disappointing. Even the Synths feel flat here when compared to actual software synths like FM8..that Kontakt 3's base library just cant compete with. Is it just me or does it seem that NI does an fantastic job with there software syths but their sample based selections to fall flat? Now on its on I suppose sans the library Kontakt 3 does well for what it was made for. but considering it costs $400 I would think they could do a bit better job of including better samples expecally considering they offer 15 Gigs of it. I guess its the old saying that "less is more". but as far as Kontakt 3 itself goes. Good sampler that supports many formats. even though it sometimes has some isuses with .giga files.. not naming correctly. If the only reason you are getting Kontakt 3 is just to have a "good" library of sounds. you can get FM8, Massive or Absynth 4 for half of the price..each. :-) or go for the Komplete bundle which is on sale for this month i believe! dispite some of there lack of sample qualities in some of their libraries i still think NI rocks in terms of Soft synthesis :-) close [-]
