Honestly I don't think this does a whole lot to or for the sound of a well stretched and tuned kick. Unless you mic alot, then you will notice a deadening to over-ring. So for me its a plus in the sense that I personally believe that you should never put "pillows" in a drum. Its a drum. When you use hydraulics or muffled heads this goes well with the right idea, looks great too. I use remo pinstripe ebony for the batter and a single ply ebony remo ambassador for the resonant. Tip, buy yourself a standard size template at your local M.S and trace it and cut it, instead of using this template. It is impossible to buy separate and if you change your reso like you should you'll be glad you kept your template that comes with this kick-port. Does not work well with akg d112 but audix or sennheiser fits through fine. Looks awesome compared to stock holes. The guys at sweetwater are knowledgeable about a great bit of equipment and when it comes to price they always tell me what I want to hear. Ships quick.
