Awesome little mic
by Mike from Newark, NJ., May 2007
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Musician.
Don't let its diminutive size fool you. This mic sounds HUGE. The Shure KSM27 has a very natural sound quality. Nothing jumps out at you. What you stick it in front of ends up playing back identically. Well worth the price.
A Mic Worth Paying Twice It's Price
by Dontae Dynamite from Richmond, VA, April 2007
Music Background: Hip-Hop and R&B Producer, Recording/Mix Engineer
I don't own one of these but another producer friend of mine(Rick McLemore) used one of these in his home studio. I have been on the music scene a few years and I have heard from many of my associates that Shure was a reputable company that make great products but I never used any of them myself other than thier dynamic mics at some of my artists shows.
I was a little hesitant to use the mic since I've never heard of it(I'm used to using a TLM 103) but Rick convinced me that my recordings would shine.
Since I wanted to see what this baby was made of I recorded the artist using nothing but a Mackie preamp into a Roland VS2400. No tubes, no compression, no plug-ins. All I can say is that the mic performed very well without any additives to the front end. The vocals had unbelievable clarity and natural sound. I am so impressed that I will be acquiring one for my own personal arsenal. This mic does not perform like a budget mic.I've had experience with mics costing twice as much not measuring up to it's performance. It's not a U87 but it's worth your time. Please don't let the price fool you!
Great mic...
by Chuck Hutcheson from Baxley, GA, September 2006
Music Background: local producer / arranger / writer / performer / engineer / teacher / etc.
My only complaint is the box it comes in. No case?? Great sounding mic, really. I've used it running thru a tube mic pre and it sounded great on acoustic guitars & vocals. Also got some great sounds with muted trumpet a`la Miles Davis - nice warmth. Good on amps, but as with any setup you've got to find the sweet spot on the amp. You can tell it can handle high spl's. Good construction and good sound. Great overall mic.
a great mic especially for the price
by Mista808 from Sacramento, CA, August 2006
Music Background: Producer/Recording Engineer
I've had this mic for about 6 months now and it been great thus far. Quality is up there with the mics that cost 500-1000 dollars so I do recommend getting one and I would've done it all over again after having it for the last 6 months.
My secret weapon
by Kyle Krupinski from St Louis MO 63122, July 2006
Music Background: Bass Player, Recording Engineer and Live Sound Engineer
I love this microphone. I purchased one about 8 to 9 months ago and I have loved this mic since the day I bought it. I've tried it on everything from Vox to Drums. I've used it and liked the sound on Lead vox, Backing Vox, Room Drum mic, Overhead mic and as an acoustic mic. I preferred the sound of other mics on guitar and bass amps although I've heard of them being used for such applications. For the price this mic is a must have.
happy owner
by Nathan Butler from Charlottesville, VA, November 2005
I have been able to borrow one of these for recording projects for some time now, and have always been really happy with the character of sound, and never ever having to worry about it working properly! Now I have been able to purchase one for my recording business, and frankly, it's a crucial step in building my business.
smooth

this is a killer mic for the price......built like a tank, crystal clear, sits great in the mix.....works well on everything from percussion to vocals, and works awesome on bass and guitar cabs.....not my first choice for lead vocals, but with a good tube pre this thing is great for a clear open sound.
This mic does it all
by Sean Nickerson from Merced, CA, January 2004
I have a budget studio, and the KSM27 was a great investment. Guitars, vocals, and even an ambient room mic for durms. Clear and full sound, as you might expect. I also expect that it will last for years to come. Solid construction and nifty foam padded box to store it in.
