Great Mic

I bought the KSM109 with the intent of finding a reliable and inexpensive small diaphragm condenser, and it has exceeded expectations. The construction rivals that of the SM series, proving strong enough for on-stage applications, as well as everyday studio use. The tight cardiod pattern is perfect for closer miking applications (in which the -15dB pad can be useful). The frequency response is warm, which translates well for acoustic guitars and even better for high hat. The low end response isn't amazing, but what else would you expect from such a small diaphragm. Overall, it’s no SM81, but I believe the 109 can easily become a mic closet standard, right next to the 57 and 58.
