Handheld Vocal Condenser Mic, Fixed Cardioid Polar Pattern

Neumann is world renowned for their legacy of fantastic studio microphones, but with the elegant KMS-104 they are making their uncompromising standards available in an affordable high quality hand held microphone. The KMS 104 features all the same capabilities that have made the KMS 105 so successful for Neumann, however, offers the choice of a cardioid polar pattern.

The exquisite design includes an elastic shock mounted cardioid capsule with three metal basket layers providing a robust method of getting rid of those frustrating plosives. Not only is it a luxurious looking mic, but it’s also very lightweight making it a pleasure to use in a live performance.

When compared to other handheld vocal microphones, the KMS 104 offers a superior resolution of the voice, with extended frequency response and accurate transient detail. Sibilance problems common to other handheld condenser mics are eliminated. No foam is used in the basket, thus eliminating any "clouding" or "muffling" of the sound.

The frequency response characteristic is developed in the acoustic realm, allowing for accurate representation of transient details found in music and speech, and thus transmitting a very "open" and detailed capture of the human voice. The frequency response and in-built high-pass filters have been optimized for very close miking. They compensate the proximity effect, resulting in an even sound reproduction.

The KMS 104 is provided with a capsule with cardioid characteristics, yielding the best rear sound rejection. The KMS 105 uses a capsule with supercardioid characteristics, yielding the best front-to back
rejection ratio.

This microphone is totally top-notch. I was working sound for a jazz variety show, and we had a number of microphones on the stage. I noticed this one and approached it, curious because of the clarity... read more [+] I was hearing on our saxophones. I turned it over and noticed it was a Neumann. I was excited, to say the least, to be working with a $700 microphone. We used it on a vocalist in one of the ensembles, and his voice just shined. The clarity and smooth quality of the vocals were exactly what you´d expect out of one of the most famous, most expensive stage microphones on the market. Working with one of these today was truly a highlight of my life. close [-]

Had a vocalist bring one of these with her for a gig. It's an amazing mic. Kinda steep price point for a handheld vocal, but worth it if you want the quality.

I wish this mic had come out ten years ago - maybe I'd be a better singer today - you can hear when you go a little flat or sharp where as other live mics don't catch every harmonic like this one - -... read more [+] i really love it close [-]
