March 1, 2012 Music Background: Voice Over Artist Great Sound at a Great Price

This uke has a wonderful, rich sound and is forgiving enough to let beginners sound like pros. Expect for it to take a week or more to get the sound "just right" - the strings have to stretch (and you... read more [+] might want to tighten the screws on the tuners as well, just a little), and so you'll be tuning it a lot the first few days (but it's that way with every string change on any uke, of course). The wood body needs to get used to this new pressure too, but after that, everything sounds great. You could spend a lot more on an uke and still get the sound quality you get with this one, so if you're a beginner, an intermediate student who doesn't want to spend a lot, or if you just need a practice uke, this is the one. close [-]

February 29, 2012 Music Background: hobbist Kala Excellent Beginner's Uke
by Robert Trueman from Calgary, AB, Canada
I've had numerous ukuleles over the years and I've been lucky enoughDecember 16, 2011 Music Background: Strictly Amateur to have never owned a real bad one. So, when I wanted to get one as a gift for a beginner I did some research. Many... read more [+] ukuleles seemed, well, adequate. None really pleased me. I thought of my own first really satisfactory ukulele. It was a Makala, sort of Kala's little brother. I liked the look of the Kala, and you know, that is important, too! I sent for the Kala KA-S. It's a great little uke, and I'm looking forward to giving it away, starting another worthy soul down the happy path to Ukutopia! close [-] Also popular
