K 601 DESCRIPTION

Reference-quality Semi-open Dynamic Headphones
The AKG K 601 headphones, like their big brother, the K 701, are reference-quality audiophile headphones. These future-oriented, open-back dynamic headphones not only offer good wearing comfort, but also deliver an incredibly detailed, full, yet crisp sound. This is the result of a new AKG Varimotion two-layer diaphragm that ensures optimum diaphragm motion for extremely accurate highfrequency response and a powerful low end. The overall sound is uncommonly natural and open. In short, the K 601 are premium reference headphones for anyone who appreciates true high-end equipment.

AKG K 601 at a Glance:
  • Patented AKG Varimotion ultra-precision two-layer diaphragm
  • Self-adjusting genuine-leather headband
  • High-performance cable with 1/4" jack plug
  • Individually tested and numbered

Varimotion Ultra-precision Two-layer Diaphragm
The heart of any headphone is the diaphragm. Made of extremely thin foil, the diaphragm is required by transducer designers to perform incredible, almost artistic feats. The rim of the diaphragm must vibrate elastically while the center portion should move like a piston. AKG achieved just that by designing the Varimotion system.
The "sound zone" in the center is thicker than the rim and therefore moves like a piston with no partial oscillations. The result is an absolutely realistic sound, with a better sonic perspective and an airier high end. The rim, or "movement zone", is thinner and vibrates more easily, providing a powerful, punchy bass range.

b>Self-adjusting Headband
Designed in collaboration with award-winning Austrian firm Kiska, the new K 701 updates AKG's distinctive design vocabulary with natural materials, including a self-adjusting padded genuine glove leather headband.

High-performance Cable
AKG engineers considered the entire signal path from amplifier to eardrum in designing the K 601. Bi-wired oxygen-free (99.99% OFC) copper cables optimize channel separation. Frequency response is flat from 10 Hz to 39.8 kHz, well beyond the range of human hearing. Sensitivity is 105 dB while power handling is 200 mW.

Individually Tested and Numbered
The K 601's deluxe packaging reflects its elite "flagship" status. Each individually tested, calibrated and numbered set of headphones comes with its own metal storage cradle, which is enclosed in a presentation case. Th AKG K 601 is hand-crafted in Vienna, Austria by AKG's most experienced builders, and is backed by a two-year parts and labor warranty.

Very accurate - only pretty when the mix is.

“I got these and have to admit that they didn't impress me at first listen. Then I took a trip to Headphone.com and found out that these cans and their big brother, the K701's, require a significant break-in time, on the order of 200-300 hours. So I broke them in for the specified time, and 10 days later, the results were significantly better.

I have been trying to objectively...” Read More
