In addition to its nitrocellulose-lacquer-finished 2-piece alder body, this '62 Heavy Relic Jazzmaster captures many other idiosyncrasies of the 1962 Jazzmaster's tonewoods in perfect detail. One of the most remarkable of these is its rounded dark rosewood laminate fretboard shaped to the radius of the '62 Heavy Relic Jazzmaster's larger C-shaped maple neck.

So, what's the story with this finish? Actually, back in 1962, Fender finished their guitars in a few standard colors. It was only after Fender would receive an order for a Jazzmaster in a custom color that they'd paint over the standard finish.
