I did my research for a fretless bass at a price I could afford. When I saw this bass My first reaction was that it is just a Jaco clone. It is and with great respect to an amazing player, if Jaco wer... read more [+]e alive he might just have one. Tone is the key here, and the Squire has it.... A truckload of it! Now every Wood based instrument has it's own sound but overall my bass sounds awesome. I swapped out the roundwound strings for flats and it did effect the high end some but the tone knob can fix some of that and it does very well. It would be nice to have instructions on cleaning and care of the fingerboard and as usual Fender should think about building their bridge plates a little thicker maybe going as far as making future basses stringthru for more sustain and even more tone.
