From Our Research Team:Fender Standard Jazz Bass Sounds Awesome and Fits Like a GloveLooking for a great-sounding bass that's amazingly comfortable and easy to play? A classic for those exact reasons, the FENDER® Jazz Bass® is the first instrument that pops into mind.Fender's iconic Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960 as the bass counterpart of their Jazzmaster™ guitar. Positioned as "Deluxe" models, both featured a comfortable offset-waist body design that was quite adventuresome compared to what had come before. Compared to its single-pickup Precision Bass® stablemate, the Jazz serves up richer tone and a broader range of sounds from its dual single-coil pickups - each with two pole pieces per string. This gives the Jazz Bass a stronger treble and more midrange complexity, and less of the fundamental harmonic - allowing bassists to "step out" from their traditional support role. And with its narrow 1.5" nut width, the Jazz neck has a "fast" feel that facilitates soloing. Think Geddy Lee. Jazz players such as Jaco Pastorius and Marcus Miller - along with countless other bass greats of all musical genres - have elevated the J-Bass to cult status. It has been steadily improved in subtle ways, but - to their credit - Fender has never strayed from the essence of what makes the Jazz Bass a classic. The Standard Series Jazz Bass includes Fender's latest refinements, as well as a gig bag to protect your axe. The Standard Jazz Bass gives you the best of old and new, with a vintage-style bridge, tinted neck, three-ply parchment pickguard and '70s-style headstock logo. The modern "C" shape neck and medium jumbo frets give you buttery playability, and the sound you get from Fender's latest J-Bass pickups is pure J-Bass growl. Shielded cavities give you quieter operation and reduced hum. (As always, hum is cancelled completely with both pickups at equal volume.) It really boils down to sound, playability and comfort. Fender's Standard Jazz Bass gives you all three! Fender Standard Jazz Bass Features at a Glance:

I just got this bass late last week and can't say enough good things about it. Sure ... if someone handed me a $3500 custom shop bass, I would probably be blown away by it, but considering THIS bass c... read more [+]ost less than $600, the fit, finish and hardware are exceptionally nice and solid. The limited run copper finish looks like it belongs on a bass that's at least twice as expensive, and the pickups sound nice and punchy with no annoying buzz.October 2, 2011 Music Background: Semi-Pro Drummer I'm somewhat of a beginner on the bass (late 40s), so I didn't want to spend a lot of money to get started -- but I didn't want to buy a super low-end bass, either. I know that every penny counts, but I highly recommend getting this bass vs. buying a Squier if you can swing it. If you are a beginner or casual player, you will get years of use out of this model. Sweetwater set the bass up very nicely, too! close [-] Excellent Bass

It came set up nicely and ready to play out of the box- just needed a slight intonation adjustment on the G string- no big deal. Overall I am very satisfied and think this will serve me well for a long time. close [-]
