Only the best is good enough
The Fender Select Active Jazz Bass is exactly as the name implies - select. All the tonewoods are premium from the alder body with maple top to the quartersawn maple neck to the channel-bound rosewood fretboard. A duo of new Fender Select pickups were designed to give the Select Active Jazz Bass its rich and full low end while preserving the growling midrange associated with Jazz Basses. From the Fender/Hipshot tuners to the High Mass Vintage bridge to the active/passive electronics, no expense was spared on the American-made Fender Select Active Jazz Bass^®.

The Select neck
The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, and the Fender Select Active Jazz Bass features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is about 50% more stable than plain-sawn necks, and less likely to warp, twist or shrink. You'll love the playability and feel of the Select Active Jazz Bass's compound-radius fretboard. Down low, your fretting hand will appreciate the 9.5" radius that keeps things nice and comfortable for natural, relaxed arpeggio work. Up top, a 14" radius lays it all out flat for effortless, low-action high-speed runs without fretting out.

Channel-bound? What does this mean? In the Select Active Jazz Bass^®, Fender has actually inlaid a compound-radius rosewood fingerboard into the bass's modern C-shaped neck, so the perimeter of the neck itself is the actual binding. It's a novel and innovative approach that creates a unique, stylish look, while giving you an uber-comfortable, buttery fretting-hand feel with delightfully rounded edges and no side seam between neck and fingerboard.
