This is what I was looking for in a bass guitar. It is a sunburst with a tortoise shell pickguard, vintage reverse tuners, vintage bridge and custom shop vintage pickups. I play in a classic rock ban... read more [+]d and I am very much into vintage tone. The Fender Custom Shop '64 Jazz Bass NOS is everything I wanted. First of all, it is produced as if brand new in 1964. It is obvious they have taken special care in the quality of the alder used in the body and the maple used for the neck. The fit and finish (nitrocelluose) are excellent. I do think it allows the wood to breathe a bit and impart more resonant tone. The finish is delicate, so you need to wipe it down after each use and be careful how you handle it, but that is part of the mystique. The vintage style pickups I found to have more output than I expected. They are clear, each note is articulated well across the scale. With the two pickups you can be punchy with a growl, or smooth and mellow, depending on what is needed. Our drummer and lead guitarist noted immediately how good it sounded. It sounds MUCH BETTER than the American Series Jazz Bass I had been playing for the past two years. It is probably not a bass for everyone, particularly if you slap or are looking for a modern, active sound. The people at Sweetwater were great to deal with. close [-]
