Not only did Hoppus exchange the Jazz Bass's traditional pair of single-coil pickups for a Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound split-coil Precision Bass^® pickup, but he reversed the configuration, setting the top part of the pickup closer to the bridge, and the bottom closer to the neck.



This unusual pickup configuration gives the Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass a truly unique sonic character, adding extra snap to the low strings and a mellowing out the high end. That's not all that's a little bit tweaked about this bass. The bridge is a hybrid too; it's an American series bridge plate that's been loaded with Standard series saddles and screws.
