Martin's largest body shape ever - the Grand J-14 Fret
With the Grand J12-40E Special, Martin showcases their largest body shape ever - the brand-new Grand J-14 Fret body style. Thanks to this incredible new body, you can expect an all-new dimension to the 12-string guitar's voice - giving the tone connoisseur an unbelievable sound for intimate stage performances or intricate studio recordings.

Choice tonewoods complement the large body, for a strong, beautiful voice
As you'd expect, Martin gave the Grand J12-40E top tonewoods - the classic blend of a solid Sitka spruce top with back and sides of solid East Indian rosewood. This combination delivers a culminal blend of presence and warmth, for legendary rich acoustic tone, through and through.

Onboard D-TAR Wave-Length Multi-Source electronics are perfect for the stage
You'll find that the Martin Grand J12-40E is equally poised for studio and stage work, thanks to its excellent pickup configuration. Onboard, the instrument has D-TAR's Wave-Length Multi-Source pickup system, which combines a thin, piezo under-saddle transducer with an 18V, low-noise, hi-Z impedance preamplifier. With this system, you'll achieve twice the dynamic range of typical 9V systems. The system is powered by two AA batteries and also offers an input for a second source, such as a magnetic pickup or a soundboard transducer.

shimmering acoustics

Music Background: playing since 14, now own 5 12 strings
I own a 1979 Guild 212 XL and a 1975 Guild 412, both Jumbo body. I've been to luthier shows looking for an even better 12 string, and played $5,10,20 and 30 thousand dollar guitars looking for that to... read more [+]ne. No luck...I couldn't believe that anyone could beat the sheer volume and loudness of my Guilds, or their lengthy tones. Right out of the box this was fantastic. I knew a great guitar should be great at a young age. If it didn't have it then, would it ever? I use a heavy gauge on my Guilds, and they were perhaps a bit louder, but this was sheer magic to my ears, shimmering highs and plenty of depth on the bass response. Jumbo bodies Rule! close [-]

Our Customers Say...

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
