Simulated reverbs offer great control of individual parameters but can't accurately reproduce the sound of real acoustic spaces. Convolution reverbs are sample-based, and so capture natural reverb, but haven't offered the flexible controls of simulated reverb-until now. With the IR-360, you get the actual captured sound of the world's best venues and unmatched control using the traditional parameters you're already familiar with.

Waves IR-360 at a Glance:
  • Stunning surround reverbs in a variety of channel configurations
  • Efficient mixdown techniques for CPU-friendly processing
  • Tools to capture your own samples
  • Extensive library of improved impulse response samples with miking options
  • A wide variety of control functions

Stunning surround reverbs in a variety of channel configurations
IR-360 gives you stunning surround reverb in a variety of channel configurations:
  • Mono to 5-channel discrete surround processing using 4 or 5 convolutions
  • Efficient stereo to 5 channel discrete surround processing using 4 or 5 convolution
  • Mono to 5 channel sound field processing using 3 convolutions
  • Efficient stereo to 5 channel sound field processing using 3 convolutions
  • Full stereo to 5 channel sound field processing using 6 convolutions

Efficient mixdown techniques for CPU-friendly processing
When processing one surround format to create a different surround format, IR-360 uses mixdown techniques to make the process more efficient and practical. All surround to surround configurations are offered in both 5 channel to 5 channel, and 5.1 channel to 5.1 channel, with the LFE channel passed to the output without any further processing: sound field surround to surround using 6 convolutions, plus efficient discrete surround to surround using 4 convolutions.

Tools to capture your own samples
You can now capture the sound of your favorite acoustic spaces and hardware devices. To make your own sample, just play the included sweep signal (a pure tone whose frequency changes continuously from low to high frequency) into an acoustic space or through an outboard processor (such as an analog EQ or reverb box) and record the result. IR-360 then lets you import and de-convolve the recording, creating a sample that's ready to use.

Extensive library of improved impulse response samples with miking options
Waves engineers have traveled the world to capture the sounds of the most revered venues, from the Sydney Opera House in Australia to Wembly Stadium in London to the Birdland jazz club in Manhattan. Now we've added even more venues, with improved sound and a choice of samples recorded with different microphone placements for a variety of reverb within the same venue. You also get practical samples from stairwells, vehicle interiors, and even a cavern. The new library is now provided on a DVD disc with a dedicated installation program.

A wide variety of control functions:
  • Convolution Start Control Lets you trim the beginning of a sample to eliminate unwanted predelay.
  • ER (Early Reflections) Buildup Control lets you adjust the buildup slope of the early reflections to control the attack sound of the transients, from crisp to smooth.
  • Dry Gain Mode gives you more control over the sound by letting you adjust the wet and dry signal gains separately, instead of just mixing between them as you must with the traditional dry/wet control.
  • Dynamic Preset Handling - Adding or removing samples and presets is now easier, with the preset menu reflecting the impulse response samples contained in the presets folder.
  • 96kHz - Support for high resolution.
  • Reverb Time RT60 - Unlike existing products, IR-360 uses unique impulse response (IR) manipulation techniques to allow shortening and lengthening (times 4) of the reverb time while maintaining acoustic coherence and preserving the natural envelope and frequency content.
  • Size - Controls the room size by applying acoustic modeling to the impulse response sample, adjusting the early reflections to make the space smaller or larger while maintaining its signature.
  • Reverb Decay Envelope - A graph-based multiple breakpoint envelope allows unlimited options for reshaping the reverb's decay behavior.
  • Density - Makes the space sound clear or denser by applying modeling methods to alter the reflections, resonance, and inherent randomness of the impulse response sample.
  • Reso - (Resonance) Analyzes the frequency response of the impulse response sample and derives the room modes, allowing acoustically-based control of the modal timbre.
  • Decorrelation - While not a classic reverb control, decorrelation allows greater control of the reverberation's stereo spaciousness.
  • ER/Tail/Direct Independent Control - IR-360 analyzes the impulse response sample to find the early reflection and reverb tail (ER/Tail) boundary markers, which then allows you to alter these characteristics using the classic controls of gain and pre-delay for each portion.
  • Damping - Proportional to the reverb time, this control applies innovative filtering methods to control the impulse response sample's low, mid, and high frequencies separately.
  • 4-Band paragraphic EQ - Controls the reverb's color using a 4 band paragraphic equalizer based on our renowned Renaissance EQ plug-in.
  • CPU Usage Control - Special Efficient-Stereo components requiring less processing power; A "low CPU" mode utilizing intelligent algorithms that require less CPU usage while preserving high sound quality and definition.
  • Direct Convolution Length Control - This allows control over the length of the actual real-time convolution. Therefore the CPU load can be reduced if desired by using a shorter convolution length and a longer RT 60.

Our Customers Say...

My Sales Engineer is the best. If I need it tomorrow, I have it tomorrow. He makes sure everything is in order and that I'm set up right. I've spent a lot of money at other places, too, but I don't remember them calling me to make sure everything's okay.
